We very much enjoyed our meal here. All the menu items were new, so this was an explorative visit.
After reading previous reviews, we came expecting not to know the prices and after visiting it seems like they can customize the amount of food you get hence why the prices may be subject to change. As in if you want multiple full plates of something it might be $10 each, but if you order them together on the same plate as a combo it is more affordable.
The staff were kind and welcoming. There was only a small language barrier (which again I was expecting from other reviews), however nothing unmanageable or uncomfortable. We showed some photos from other reviews and asked questions about other items since some of the photo quality is difficult to see and there aren't descriptions. We didn't get much info, but we opted for the sambusas to start and then a 3 part combo plate (we asked for 4 with spinach but maybe they were out).
The sambusas were very good, unique to others I've had and the spicy sauce was to die for, perfectly tangy. As a spice lover, if you are not; proceed with caution. My favorite was the chapati beef (I think). We also got some chicken (not sure which kind 🤣) and the anjeera because we wanted to compare both the flatbreads.
All in all this is a great hole in the wall place with unique, and seemingly authentic food. If you are an adventurous eater who doesn't really mind not being 100% sure what you ordered and are more about being on a flavor journey and new experiences then you will love this spot. However if you have many food allergies, are a picky eater, or very anal and controlling then I wouldn't recommend it.
Thank you so much, we loved our visit and will be back soon to try more dishes! You've won the approval seal of the Women's International Eating Club...
Read moreI got chapati beef and a sambusa. I wish I had gotten more things to go with it, because everything was delicious and I'd love to try more from here. I'm not familiar with this type of food, but I will definitely be back to try it again.
The one weird thing is that they don't have prices up, even on their paper menus, and I got the feeling they were making the prices up as they went along... More transparency in the ordering process/prices would be helpful to those of us who smell the place from the street and want to try it but hesitate due to lack of information. They might have more business if they were more clear about pricing. The food had wonderful flavor! I liked getting a surprise banana, and they also included a bottle of water in my to go...
Read moreClean and comfortable restaurant with gracious staff and exceptionally good food. Walked in, ordered at the counter, and what arrived at my table was some of the best Somali food I've had the pleasure of enjoying. The rice was full of flavor as was the chicken suqar. Chapati were fresh, with a slightly chewy texture that went perfectly with the chicken. The basbaas (green salsa) was also very good and went well with the whole meal. Overall, I loved this place for both the food and people, and will definitely be back here when I'm in...
