This place has decent pizza, but given that they've both jacked up the prices and are now charging 20% for takeout, they won't be getting my business anymore.
If you can't pay your staff a living wage on pizza costing $30 a pop, that's an owner being greedy or a personal budgeting problem.
There is zero reason for takeout to incur the same cost as dine in because the overhead is not the same.
Way too many businesses trying to use inflation to increase profits well beyond actual costs.
And seeing the owner's attitude to another posted similar grievances I'm going to be glad to never give another dime & take my business to others who are transparent on their pricing & don't have temper tantrums when customers are tired of being forced tipping to cover business owners operating expenses.
Edit: YIKES my dude. I sincerely hope your attitude sinks your business and I am sorry that I ever gave you any business to begin with.
I don't care about your needing to staff someone at a counter to handle takeout. That's a cost of YOU doing business that literally everyone else has, especially pizza. Be happy at having that kind of volume that you need that help. Youre not providing an extra service as in the case with table service or delivery & sure not worth 20% because you don't want to pay your back of house employees as they deserve. So spare the crocodile tears about how hard you have it.
And for being a complete & utter jerk I hope your employees see this and know that schemes like this by unscrupulous owners with the altruistic claim of how it goes directly to employees are often a tax shifting effort to duck the employer side of payroll taxes and/or reduce reported income and put the onus on the workers to pay the full tax burden as opposed to pricing the menu accordingly and having that as regular income.
I'm also going to let some of our local political circles know businesses are doing this because it's lying about the price and there's actual political appetite to curtail the abuse of supplemental fees as of late specifically because of dishonest...
Read moreAlrighty… Let’s just start by saying: East Glisan Pizza is officially back in action, and in my humble (but seasoned pizza-loving) opinion, they are stepping into the spotlight as one of Portland’s top-tier neighborhood pizza spots.
Kristen, one of the owners, is a true gem. She’s not just running the show—she’s out on the floor, making sure every guest is comfortable, cared for, and probably cracking a smile. She took the time to chat with my group about the relaunch, the updates, and the passion behind it all. Honestly, hats off for bringing this Montavilla staple back to life. We needed this.
On my last couple visits, we were lucky enough to be taken care of by Beth, and let me tell you—she’s the kind of server who makes you feel like you’ve known her forever. Warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. It’s the kind of service that makes you want to stay for one more drink, one more slice... maybe both.
Now let’s talk about the food (aka why you’re really here). The pizza, breadsticks, and salads were always solid, but the new and improved versions are truly next-level. The sauce is perfectly balanced (zesty but not overwhelming), the crusts are golden perfection, and everything comes out just right—crispy, melty, satisfying.
The Detroit-style deep dish has my heart. It’s cheesy and flavorful without being greasy or over-the-top thick. I even ventured into the vegan territory (yes, I’m that person now) and I swear, you’d never know it wasn’t the real deal. Flavor? Check. Texture? Check. Existential moment of doubt that it’s vegan? Double check.
I’ve also had the kale Caesar both times and thoroughly enjoyed it—the dressing is bomb. That said, I’m hoping for a classic romaine Caesar to make an appearance someday (because sometimes you just want the OG version, ya know?).
All in all, East Glisan Pizza is doing everything right. Great food, genuinely kind and passionate people, and a community vibe that makes Montavilla shine a little brighter. Go check it out—eat, drink, laugh, and leave happy. You’ll probably see me...
Read moreSo this pizza spot is obviously highly ranked already before I even put my 5-star rating in and I'll explain why.
This new york-style pizza also does Detroit deep-dish but we didn't do the deep dish this time, we'll hit that up next round.
So the environment is very lounge-type it has a couch corner space for drinking night caps with a good friend or potential new girlfriend or boyfriend. We ate in the back corner was a little dim but once your eyes adjust it really seemed to be fine. Wait staff was really nice and patient and was good about making sure drinks were refilled or we had second round if we wanted it. We did stop in after 9 so we tried some of their happy hour food and drinks. I didn't take a picture of it but I did have the garlic bread bites highly highly recommend they were delicious. One of the main reasons I would definitely be on board with the eating leaves again is ordering the garlic aioli as a dipping sauce. Now onto the main Pizza I always order a pepperoni with extra cheese and sausage if able to. I usually do this for the same reason as I get a nice bass of what type of pizza this restaurant will make. The pizza came out very flimsy in a traditional New York style pizzas which I'm on board with! The pizza was pepperoni sausage extra cheese and had fresh mozzarella. The sauce was light not heavy and not super zesty. The pepperonis were crunchy but not very fatty that you would normally get when you have a pepperoni pizza and the oil drips off your hand and all over. This pizza was not very oily and did not do that. So in closing check this pizza place out it's phenomenal I'll be coming back ready to try the Detroit style pizza. And bring my family along! Also we tried a dessert and we would definitely recommend it it leans a little bit on the citrus side which I...
