Love love LOVE this place! It's hard finding good keto options in PDX (or anywhere), and as much as I love BBQ, it will cost you an arm and a leg in PDX.
I ordered The Pit Master Nap w/ Brisket add-on, so I could try a little of everything, as well as 2 sides of cole slaw. I want to start with the ribs because they were SO TENDER but still stuck to the bone. The brisket was amazing, I got a end piece by chance (lucky me!) And it was perfectly smoked. The turkey was a surprise, well seasoned and incredibly juicy! The pulled pork was great, as was the hot link. I really loved the cole slaw as well, perfectly tangy with no "old cabbage" flavor you often encounter. I tried this with the Red Eye BBQ, Alabama Sauce, and Mustard Vinegar. All are delicious and unique offerings to complement the smoked meat. I can't speak to the other sides as they are not keto (sure was tempting though!), but I have no doubt they would be delicious as well.
This is all punctuated by the fact that this BBQ is much better priced than my other favorites (people's pig/podnah's). If you like BBQ, even remotely,...
Read moreSometimes life works out that way. We came to the Killingsworth Station pod for Mexican food, written up in the "Portland Mercury". However, everything was sold out at that food cart, plus many of the other eateries were closed by the time we arrived. To the rescue: Bark City BBQ! It won't be our second choice ever again. Opened just a month ago, Bark City seems destined for southern BBQ greatness. Owner Michael Keskin, with many years as an executive chef under his belt and he's even worked as a pitmaster, lovingly cranks out luscious, perfect pulled pork -- not the kind that's overcooked into oblivion or overdone with fake liquid smoke. His is juicy and tasty. And, omg, his sides are to die for, too. Try the creamy, chunky, flavourful potato salad and the just-like-mom's coleslaw. Sadly, the pickled avocado was sold out or I would have tried that. He's got a lot of offerings on the menu other than pulled pork so I hope to get back to sample more. Whatever you do, don't, I repeat, do not pass on the Banana Pudding Milkshake. It will sit nicely on top of your full tummy....
Read moreThis place is seriously amazing! It has the best comprehensive southern food/bbq spread in the city— believe me I’ve looked. The meat is cooked well, the different sauces allow you to choose between NC vinegar to sweeter and thicker classic Texas type sauce (being from Virginia I always love a vinegar based option). Every side is delicious, which I always think has been the tough part of finding a good BBQ meal in Portland; many spots have always focused solely on the meat (which I do appreciate— good meat is essential!) but their sides often strike me as an afterthought. Not the case for this spot! Each side seems to have been through several iterations before the chef settled on what worked best. Personal suggestion, offering a honey butter spread to the menu to go on the cornbread would put that item on another level (it’s already great). Also the real sleeper on the menu: the banana pudding milkshake. The caramelized banana is the cherry on top of a fantastic dessert. Overall I’m obsessed with this cart and every time I go I’m...
