Basilisk is part of a group of other restaurants in a shared dining area. Half of the dining area is indoors and the other half is outdoors in a chill patio section. There are a lot of tables, but on a Monday evening almost all them were filled. Chicken burger - There were 3 to 4 pieces of fried chicken, on top of pickles and a saucy coleslaw. The chicken was nice and crispy but flavor wise it seemed just OK. I appreciated that they really loaded that chicken sandwich especially for the price point of nine dollars but it was so tall that there was no way I could bite top to bottom all in one mouthful. I like how they used a very sturdy type of bread I’m not sure what it’s called but it was able to hold up even though there was so much contents in between. Coleslaw was kind of saucy and drip down my fingers onto the platter below. I found that I was left with a small mass of coleslaw at the end of my meal. Ice cream - I was excited when I saw that Kool-aid packet on their menu so I was expecting something more sour. What I got instead was a vanilla based soft serve with some Kool-Aid flavoring but overall it was much more sweet than sour. They serve it in a regular cup so if you walk around while holding it it’ll probably melt near the end if you don’t eat it quick enough. Overall it’s decent, But my favorite Portland fried chicken place is still LoRell’s.

Saw the amazing reviews so I decided to try it out. The service was very good, the cashier took his time to answer my questions. The food looked good, and the fries were probably the best thing I got, although for the price, I was expecting the fries to be hand cut instead of being from the freezer. The sauce in the fries was too sweet for my taste, and definitely wasn’t made there. The coleslaw was meh. I was expecting something fresh but it was just a tiny bunch of packed veggie mix with store bought dressing on top. The sandwich was also a meh for me. The sandwich buns were good and toasty, but the chicken was not worth it. I got two pieces of chicken thighs that were too oily, under-seasoned and not crunchy as others said. I didn’t get any sauce in the chicken, but I think that you can’t expect a sauce to add all the flavor. The cucumbers that were added at the bottom of the sandwich did not taste good, they actually tasted like they had been sitting in a fridge for a long time. They had a fridge-like taste. Overall, a very meh experience. The place is cute and the service is what made it decent. Also, I’m a bit concerned for the peeps who said that that was their best sandwich ever.

There are very few places in the *world* who get their fried chicken just right. It has to be the right combination of crispy from the outside, yet tender and juicy when you take that bite, and Basilisk has really cracked the code to achieving that. I try fried chicken almost everywhere I go.. and every culture and cuisine have their own take on it, but who doesn't love a good old fried chicken with just some coleslaw sandwiched between soft buns. No spices, no seasoning, nothing. Just letting the fried chicken take the front seat so that you can savor every bite. This was my second time visiting Basilisk and first time I had tried their hot chicken plate which was equally 5/5!! The service is quick and amazing too. The lady at the counter who was taking orders and serving food was very welcoming and kind. I made sure to give my compliments to the chef as I was heading out, and they accepted it graciously. I would definitely keep coming back to this place and would highly recommend chicken lovers to check this out!

I came to this place because of the reviews and an instagram reel recommending to try this sandwich and fries. When I got there, the first I saw was their kitchen from the cashier and you can see that the area wasn't as clean as you would expect for again a really well rated restaurant. The chicken sandwich was too salty and you could barely taste the chicken. It looked nice and delicious but for me it just tasted like a fried bread crumbs sandwich with no sauce. The Dandan fries aren't good either. Too much peanut sauce and the fries were soggy and soft. My wife and I are still struggling with our stomach even 4 days after eating here... In comparison to the other restaurants in the area, this one was the only one that looked dirty

It’s been a while since I had incredible fried chicken and Basilisk delivered! I ordered the Hot Chicken Plate and chatted with the staff about the spice level which they perfectly described. It’s hotter than jalapeño but less hot than habanero. It was so delicious! And flavorful. I love spicy food and it was perfect. I split the Dan Dan fries with my friend and those were amazing!! I loved the drizzle and the freshness. Also talk about crispy fries. Just excellent! My friend ordered the fried chicken sandwich and said it was delicious! The staff were so sweet and watched my stuff when I went to use the restroom. They’re the best and their food is so delicious!

Awesome sandwich. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich and loved it! The menu is small, but the options are good. The space is really neat. Five restaurants like a food court. Outdoor space is nice with some shade. Bathrooms were very dirty.
