Read moreWe ate here last night. We ordered the special which was fish on-top of a bed of peas, chickpeas, and sauce. The fish was cooked well and the sauce was average. The peas and chickpeas were obviously from a can or frozen. $18 - reasonable price for this dish but we both commented on how it should come with something bread-like. Perhaps a piece of toast or something crunchy because the dish was fairly bland.
We also ordered the bacon cheese burger but we substituted the meat patty for their veggie patty. The burger came with an up-charge salad which was a small mixed greens salad with radish and more frozen peas. The veg burger patty was thick, dry, and flavorless. It seemed like one piece of bacon was split in half instead of two pieces. The veg burger was ok - as in I ate it and it was a good size but the flavor was bland. I wanted more sauce and a juicier patty. I definitely had "order regret" but we were not in the mood to complain until...
All food was meh/acceptable but when we received our check it was a surprise to us that my veggie bacon cheese burger was $19.50. I ordered their regular bacon cheese burger but subbed out the veggie patty. The check stated that my burger cost $19.50 because it was rang in as a veggie burger,. add cheese, add bacon, & add salad. I asked to speak to the manager and they said that this is correct because of their pricing structure. I was expecting a meat bacon cheese burger price $15.50 + salad up charge because that is specifically what I asked for. I explained that I typically don't eat a lot of beef and that I often sub out a restaurant's meat+cheese burger with the veggie patty and I never receive an up-charge. Should a veggie patty subbed out for a meat patty be the reason my burger was $3 more expensive than the meat alternative? Seems stupid. I was surprised that even after I politely pointed out that this was not fair and other restaurants do not structure their menu item pricing like this they refused to reduce our bill a couple bucks.
We tipped 20% and left knowing we wont ever be back. Even if the bill was correct there are dozens of better alternatives for dinner in east PDX. We were the only people in there at 7pm which was a surprise because we had just come from the Zipper (down the street) and it was packed. We should have taken the hint as nobody was eating there but us.
This place is fine for some beers but they are obviously try to come off as a nice restaurant because their menu is long and they had plenty of staff for...
Read morePretty pathetic to say the least. But most certainly a disappointment. My girlfriend and I went in at 7:00 on a Friday and the place was about 2/3 of the way filled up. But nothing about it seemed hectic or too much for any experience wait staff to be able to manage. Both of us were very hungry so we were pleased to see that the staff be attentive in our service very early in the seating. We had both decided that we would have the beef Wellington. So my girlfriend orders first and I confirm that I want one as well. 15 minutes later, we are brought one single beef Wellington. For some reason, the waiter just assumed without verifying that we were going to share this. Let's get this straight, this is a 6 oz beef Wellington, on a bed of slightly overcooked and soggy asparagus carrots and a few other random vegetables. This is barely a complete meal for a full grown person let alone two grown adults. And judging by the look on our face, clearly the way to realized his extreme mistake when I asked him if this is it. He apologizes and says he thought we were both ordering to share. And then promptly walks away. But this is how ridiculous it was from there, we were given one single steak knife, which was pathetically dull in the first place, forcing you to make a mess of the Wellington trying to cut it, but I guess it wasn't so bad because the beef wellington was overcooked anyways so at that point we just kind of gave up and just started shoveling it in like it was an AMPM takeout menu. When the waiter returns, he apologizes again, and give us our check. We had both ordered a pint and two beef wellingtons, received the single beef Wellington the two beers and not even a suggestion of maybe knocking one of the beers off the ticket or anything. Just a hey sorry, sorry you have to go somewhere else to eat the rest of dinner because we just completely don't even care that we blew your meal. Overall, it felt very cowardice and unprofessional. We understand that people make mistakes, but the lack of foresight or even the desire to further inquire in order to ensure that their orders are taken correctly, just seemed like a completely foreign idea to the wait staff. Overall it reminds me of everything I finding to be going wrong with modern restaurants specifically in the Portland metro area. Places seem like they could care less if you ever come...
