My fiancé and I moved to the neighborhood in January and recently stopped in to Cafe Destino for some breakfast. This place is a real gem, in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Portland. Parking is on the street and 1st come 1st serve, so it is definitely easiest to walk, or ride your bike or scooter here. There is a parking lot across the side street, but I am unsure if it is solely for the businesses there, or anyone can park there. On the weekends you can probably get away with it no problem though. Along the side street there are little bistro tables to relax and enjoy a latte and a bite on a nice day. Inside you are greeted by loads of natural light, tables, a couple "booths" on the far wall, and bar height tables along the south facing wall with windows. In my opinion, the best seat in the house is the bar height table in the far corner next to the windows. You get a lovely view of the street outside, and of the cozy atmosphere inside also. We've stopped in a couple times, but the first time we had a little bit of a wait, but nothing crazy. We ordered the breakfast burrito to split (it's HUGE) , a hot chagga (excuse my spelling if I butchered that) latte, and an iced caramel latte with oat milk. They were OUTSTANDING and the burrito was delicious, filling, and more than enough food for two guys to split and be satisfied. We also grabbed a slice of their chocolate chip banana bread, which didn't even last the walk home because once I took a bite, I couldn't stop eating. Everyone working here was super friendly, and just seemed happy to be at work. The patrons all seemed just as friendly and happy to be there! All in all this place is a "must go" since we can't stop going. Yesterday I got the special which is biscuits and sausage gravy. Get it with a jalapeño cheddar and chive biscuit, you will not be disappointed. And make sure you try that bar height table in the corner because it really makes the entire vibe immaculate. We can't wait to go back soon! They also offer ordering ahead if you're in a rush, but I recommend going on a day when you've time to take in the...
Read moreGosh, I rarely come in because I don't live in the area but it's right across the street from my vet. While waiting for my girl dog to come out of sedation from her pre-cancer surgery xrays, I popped in to grab some breakfast to quell my nerves. Because he is my bestest adventure buddy, my other lil pup came along in his bag. Mind you, he's 6lbs and riding in a back pack, patiently, quietly waiting with me for my coffee and bagel. I sat at my table with the bag in my lap for 10 minutes and one lady brought my breakfast but not my coffee. Having taken 2 whole bites of my sandwich, I realized I probably should look at the counter for my beverage and, yes, there it was. As I am retrieving it from the counter, a different woman than who checked me out and different from the person who brought by sandwich, immediately asks me if my dog has papers. No, I said, but I'll go outside. She didn't say hello or ask me if I had already been helped or ask me if I needed anything or if I was enjoying my food. Now, I get that dogs in restaurants is a health code issue, but is this priority over making sure that your paying customers have had their needs met? Sad to say, I will not be returning to this establishment due to a lack of regard for a person who is just retrieving...
Read moreI've been coming to this café for years and I love it :) they open at 7 am so I might end a morning walk here and get a latte and a quiche for my husband and I (we love the quiches here). Today, I tried the chicken fried steak and potatoes, and it is delicious! I will say the sausage gravy has cayenne pepper in it, so there is a little bit of a kick. The potatoes are soft, buttery, and well seasoned - a tasty addition. The chef is sweet, too. If you are getting the Iced Chai Latte. I recommend letting the gritty sediment settle to the bottom. If you are using a straw, don't drink from the bottom XD - Unless you like the gritty sediment.. The chai latte itself is on the sweeter side, not spicy. And I always get their key lime pie :) The pastry choices are many, and they usually sport some local art and products. Like mugs. It's a charming small business with nice employees, chill music, and ambient lighting, with plenty of windows to let in natural light for their plants. I got here at opening, and there were two other people, but this place gets good business, so I am sure it fills in...
