Alchemy Desserts — Local services in Portland

I think I have tried just about every Alchemy Desserts cake, cookie, or chocolate at this point, and I have never been disappointed. Every time I think Brandi could not possibly outdo herself, she somehow manages to top the last thing she made!

Here are some of the things that I think make her work so special:

1. You can tell Brandi your wildest cake dreams and she will bring them to life in a way you never could have imagined. A cake inspired by outer space? A German chocolate cake decorated with medieval unicorns? Enough color and sparkle to make Lisa Frank jealous? She can do all of that and then some. I once asked for “chaotic tea party” as the aesthetic for my mom’s 60th unbirthday party and it blew people away.

2. The care Brandi puts into her ingredients is unmatched. One of my favorite flavors is the Alchemy Desserts version of Funfetti — I’ve always loved boxed Funfetti, but she makes a version from scratch that is the richest, most buttery Funfetti I’ve ever had. It’s amazing. And those fresh florals you see on her cakes? She grows edible flowers herself so she can be absolutely positive they are pesticide free and handled with care. Every little detail is done so well!

3. Everything tastes as good as it looks! There’s no point in ordering a cake that looks beautiful on Instagram but tastes like it was made of wax when you bite into it. Brandi doesn’t work with fondant because it doesn’t actually taste good! She will take something genuinely hard to work with, like toasted meringue (which I think tastes/looks/feels like homemade marshmallow fluff) and will find a way to make THAT look pretty, but she won’t sacrifice flavor for looks.

I mostly talked about the cakes, but the truffles are also delicious little works of art, and I dream about her Christmas cookie boxes all year long — those sticky toffee puddings and miso dulcey brownies are life-changing.

When my husband and I got engaged I had a vision for what I wanted for our wedding day. I began planning and went to Instagram for inspo and vendors. I followed a few bakers with similar styles and went with Alchemy because I had a good vibe and feeling from Brandi’s online presence.

We had a wonderful experience with our take-home cake tasting experience. After trying some cake, we knew we were sold. We ended up getting one pastel retro three tier lemon, lemon custard, vanilla frosted cake and one single tier lavender, marshmallow filled, vanilla frosted cake.

I originally only had the three tier cake and had a bridal panic - Brandi was super supportive and made a suggestion to add the additional single tier cake, which ended up being the perfect amount of cake to feed all 70ish of us.

Brandi made our experience easy and fun from day one! I highly recommend booking with Alchemy for any occasion - I know we look forward to ordering again in the future!

I was specifically looking for a Taylor Swift themed cake and I was recommended Alchemy Desserts in a FB group and THANK GOD!!! I made it easier inspo-wise and wanted basically an exact copy of a cake that they already did before, but wanted a different lettering design. They blew it out of the water with the cake! It was soooo cute and simple but stayed true to the theme of my birthday party :) Their IG profile has allll the information you could need to place the order correctly; just makes it easier for everyone! AD was so sweet and on top of communications with making sure my order was right and timely. Loved the taste of the cake even after refrigerating it overnight; it didn't dry out/harden like other cakes I've custom-ordered. I got so many compliments with how cute and delicious the cake was!!

I highly recommend AD to anyone looking for this style of cake! Their artistry and creative execution are exceptional and definitely makes any celebration experience even better...
