Very few times I walk away from a table with a full dish. This is unfortunately one of those times.
The wontons had shrimp, not a bad thing provided they weren't so springy. Or doused in watered down chili crisp plus added salt. Skin was a little past ideal doneness but it wasn't disintegrating. Couldn't find any noticeable amount of pork either, made me wonder if their supplier for pork ripping them off. Not a fan and if I wasn't so hungry, would've left them alone.
Was upset they ran out of prawns for their dumplings when they could've used shrimp in its place. Could've just written they're out of it on the specials board. I digress.
Next came the noodle soup, advertised with handmade noodles. Noodles were mushy, shredded to bits and plagued with the texture only provided in factory noodles. My bok choy was overcooked to nearly souphood. Green onions were slimy from being overcooked. Then comes the beef, rubbery beyond belief. Nearly broke a tooth trying to bite it.
The soup was essentially that hydrolyzed chicken essence you can buy in Asian supermarkets and nothing more. Dreadfully bland. Couldn't get past a few bites before wanting to see the restroom. Left that practically untouched.
Got a case of bubblegut after eating there, 15 minutes later needed to deuce or else.
The server wasn't very attentive, the food was expensive for what we got. 2 people for $60, and half hour wait despite being empty.
Smell in the lounge was nice though. Thought I'd get to enjoy some good cooking..
Run from this place asap. -2/10. Added to list of places to never...
Read moreit reminded me a lot of the Chinese food you find in W. Virginia or Tennessee. The rice isn't really fried rice just white rice with a lot of added broth. If don't have a variety of chinese food places to compare you'll probably be impressed...if you've had food to compare this too, you'll not like it at all. They put effort, but it lacks cooking skills is all...
played it safe for a first order: The kpc was like sauted veggies with a smidge of spice maybe 1/18 of a teaspoon. Zero heat and asked for spicy(maybe got someone else's?)and the s/s chick didnt have any advertised pineapple or anything which was why we ordere it since so many places do the panda express type and not szechuan style, bbbbbuuuuutt we ended up with a 5oz container of neon red (sans the onion and pineapple advertised) and a tub of what looked like poor mans chicken nuggets. The gtc was not spicy either and mediocre.. over all pretty disappointing food and made me laugh at the good reviews and wonder what happened?!?! is it grub hub? because my food came hot. it just came really boring and bland...dare to say bland palette people are the clientele for sure! I feel bad that this is their high bar . . .yes it's fresh, but where's the love and Spices!!?!???!!!?? where is the real cook at? it didnt make me sick, but wasnt worth 60+bucks for 3 dishes and house chow mein which no one wants to eat. . .pass!! it's where people who don't like...
Read moreFirst visit here - initial look at the menu didn't instill confidence as it is 7 pages - I always worry when small restaurants try to be everything to everybody. The debate then is whether to order a "go to" item to compare their take on dishes you have had elsewhere, or try to find their specific flavor. Ended up with Spring Rolls - Very crisp and not too greezy with a nice filling that if it was a frozen product I liked alot; Mongolian Beef - which was very tender and good flavor; Vegetable Deluxe - which is a nothing from the menu description but was a really nice assortment of perfectly cooked veggies in a garlicky sauce; and last we noticed that they have a "Honey Dry" preparation which we haven't seen. We went for the chicken, and to call this a version of Sweet and Sour chicken would be a huge disservice - the only similarity was the chicken was battered and deep fried, but so tender, and the sauce was amazing - nicely sweet with a good kick which was not drowning the chicken - will order again for sure. PRO - Very good food - this reminds me of "old" Portland chinese food which actually tasted like different unique dishes. Staff was so personable and friendly. Food came out of the kitchen super fast. CON - Ambiance just OK - service slipped after food delivery. We'll be...
