I came here super excited to try one of their speciality lattes, however after viewing their 3 menus I noticed they donāt have a specific section for them. So I came inside bc coffee shops usually have a chalkboard with lattes of the month or just the specialty ones - there wasnāt any here. So i kindly asked the barista what the specialty lattes where and she rudely pointed at the menu and said everything was there, and then tried to leave the order counter. She had to make two lattes before whatever my order could have been. it was NOT SUPER busy (i came in around 8PM!) The menu inside STILL did not have a section for specialty lattes so i had to ask CHATGPT for specialty lattes i could order at this place. AI was able to give me a few suggestions and i went with the the spicy dirty chai which was great. But why did it have to happen this way? The barista couldāve kindly said āiām sorry we donāt have any specialty lattes or drinks of the monthā but instead I got a look and quick, rude reply. I added a screenshot of what chatgpt suggested (what the barista could have suggested). Another weird thing I noticed was that despite I order my drink TOGO it was given it to me without a lid and since it was my first time here i didnāt know where to get it from or the straw. AND when i asked WHERE the straws were she pointed to where they were in a way that let me know how i was INCONVENIENCING HER.. like OKAY. great coffee...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNice place to chill and study or read a book or meet a friend. Common Grounds houses a fair amount of seating for how small it is, and they keep music levels at a reasonable volume to allow for social endeavors beyond being blasted by coffeehouse rock.
I always do a boring ole Shot in the Dark, but they use good coffee and good espresso so it's hard for me to divert. They also offer pastries and small sandwiches, which is a nice step up from the pastry-only trend that seems to be swallowing up coffee shops. Some people actually want to hang out at a coffee shop, and might want to eat something while they're there! These guys get that.
Common Grounds is also the entrance to the Defunkt Theatre, which you should definitely check out if edgy, modern, relevant art is your thing. They put on a great show, and the coffee shop is always open before the show and during...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOne of my favorite chill cafe spots in pdx if not my #1. Internet is always solid, baristas are friendly but not robotic (do you want a receipt? Do you want a receipt? Etc etc). Great centralized location in a cool neighborhood with plenty of off street parking, comfortable temperature (ac always works), comfortable seating, plenty of power outlets, music is never too loud, free magazine rack, plenty of great options for tea and coffee, healthy and tasty food menu that is reasonably priced, bathrooms are always clean, good lighting, cool name and cool logo. The Mt Hood vanilla hot tea is quite good and I have not seen it anywhere else. Unlike starbucks, there is not a swarm of flies in the cafe due to the drive thru window or a ridiculous number code for accessing the bathrooms. Cc is truly deserving...
