My negative review is due to their handling a situation and not necessarily in regards to the quality of food, although it was tainted. I ordered a sandwich, it had glass in it, I called and left two messages about it right away afterwards. After just over a week no one called me back nor checked in with me. I called again and explained myself to the owner. They talked with me and he told me that they do not check messages on their phone that are left after they close. My call was after they closed as we ordered our food just before they closed. The owner said that he was sorry but dubious about the nature of the call as he said that they get those kind of calls all the time and that it was used to try to scam money and free food from the business. I said that while that was a shame the fact was that it happened and I bit into glass that shattered in my mouth from my their sandwich. He said that was odd as they didn't have glass by where they make their sandwiches. I said that as odd as that was I appreciated the challenges they faced as a restaurant but that the fact remained glass was in my sandwich. He said he just needed proof and asked me to come in and see one of his managers. I kept the glass from the sandwich, labeled it with the date and where it was from, and brought it in. So, bringing in proof was not an issue. They could bring it to the police if they wanted to. I came in, I explained the circumstance to the manager and he seemed pretty blazé about the whole thing. He said that it was weird as he didn't know how glad could get in the sandwich but looking over the counter there was obviously glass stacked in the back along with the other silver wear and supplies. It was not not near the food. That didn't bother me as much as the fact that the manager was so blazé. I could have died or been seriously injured. It is amazing that I did not get seriously injured. I may still have glass in my gut though. If I find I do and it has been causing me some serious problem I will take a different stance on the issue. There was not one word of how glad they were that I wasn't hurt nor dead. Nothing. Just, "Oh that's so weird. I don't know what to tell you.". After a short period of my explaining myself and the continued blazé response there was a short awkward pause follewed by the manager giving me a $25 gift card. "Is that okay?", he asked me. I said I guessed so. I was kind of shocked that that was the final response and that still there was no comment of them even caring about my health or wellbeing. Just, "Is that okay?". I should have said something and I didn't. That is my fault. I didn't want to come off as some guy trying to scheme out of something just as the so-called many others they spoke of did. Although, I doubt that there are any others at this point. I say something now to just get this off my chest. Perhaps the right thing to have done would have been to just call the police and go from there. Given the lack of concern and empathy from the restaurant perhaps I should have. Devil's Dill is delicious and I particularly like the pulled-pork kimchi sandwich. However, I feel very upset still by the lack of concern that was shown during this very serious incident. I would have thought that behind these great sandwiches would be a care for the customers....

Ask for their special relish as a side sauce. Doesn't come with it and great add to sandwich. We were first customers of the day when they opened at noon. They got immediately hammered with call in orders all at same time. I honestly think they could benefit from more help and opening a bit earlier...say 11. The gentleman at register was quickly overwhelmed by both calls and servicing in-person customers and for good reason. Best sadwhiches in the northwest!
Updated review Aug 2023: Still the best sandwich I've ever had. Prices have gone up a bit but still worth the trip from Olympia, WA.
Original review July 2022: Took a day trip down to Portland. While there got a recommendation from a local store owner saying this was one of the best sandwich shops in town. Being skeptical we hesitantly decided to stop by. So glad we did! One of best sandwiches we've had in a long time. The place is not much to look at. Just a hole in a wall along a busy street with many store fronts but man... what an experience! Had the pulled pork sandwich. Ciabatta bun, perfectly toasted. Meat was tender and super flavorful. The BBQ sauces wasn't anything I've tasted before. The slaw also gave a bit of sweet & savory crunch in just the right places. Unique flavor and spot-on for a pulled pork if that's what you are in to. Just a fantastic sandwich overall. Didn't care for the pickles although we could tell they were homemade. Nothing wrong with them, just not our taste in pickles. We asked the gentleman at the counter what his favorite is. Said the #5 followed closely by the #1- pulled pork. Although a bit pricey, still highly recommend this sandwich shop. The To-go menu flyers doesn't reflect their new prices so go by the pic I took of the menu...
Read moreOn October 30 at 12:30 PM Pacific time, I came in to pick up a DoorDash order. I came in and greeted The person at the front counter who told me they needed a moment I said, OK. As I waited, somebody else walked in and walked up to the counter to where this person took their order and gave them their food Without delay. This person made me wait for five more minutes until finally addressing me. He asked me who I was picking up for, and as I pulled my phone out to look at the name this person grew belligerent and impatient and tried to walk away. After telling them the name, they came back again and asked me for the name again instead, I showed them the screen to which they snarkily responded: OK you should’ve just said that. I told them that I had. They said something under their breath and I asked them if they were OK and if I had done anything to upset them. They responded by trying to withhold the order and tell me I could not pick it up. When Asked why this was the case, the belligerently Impatient male server refused to give reason. After assuring him, I had no idea what the issue was from the time I had walked in till now and a couple of other heavy annoyed breaths out out of him, he finally Handed over the order. After reaching out to Dasher support, we both concluded that there was some level of discrimination. They were completely rude to me, dismissive of my presence, and then refused to give the order that I am paid to deliver for absolutely no reason they were willing to give....
