I am redoing my review so this is an EDIT
I came to this cart because I learned in the GF group that this cart offered a variety of gf fried chicken and sides. I was so excited and then arrived for the first time to learn that nothing is dedicated and while they understand gf and cross contamination they cant guarantee anything except that most of their items including their fried food is gf. Only some of their sauces and other entrees like sandwiches are not. I accepted and orded and enjoyed my food.
Then discovered them to be at one of the portland night market events and not a single thing at their stand was gf. How do go from having a menu in your food cart that accommodates a well deserved and underrated group of people such as the gluten-free community but to serve ZERO gluten-free at an event (presumably using their own equipment) knowing that your representing something different as a food establishment outside of that specific event? My biggest upset of discovering that, is how can I trust your food in your food cart now and the equipment used seems like it needs to be in question as far as "dedicated" since you served nothing gluten-free at the night market event.
The gluten-free practices seem extremely wishy-washy and as if you dont care about the gluten-free community at all. The transparency is limited and to advertise something outside of what your actually doing is illegal and dangerous to those with serious health risk.
I'm back here again to eat at a different cart that is dedicated gluten-free and decided to try the fried pickles and they looked fantastic and tasted fantastic ad well. Would be cool if they came with a pickle ranch...
Read moreI wish I could rate 3.5 stars - I decided to try FOMO since my first choice in the little cart area was temp closed. I liked that this little food cart alcove has quite a bit of cover from rain - as the day I visited it was raining quite heavily. The beer bus also seems to manage the fire pit which was a lovely charm - thank you beer bus worker for maintaining the fire pit!
Anywho, FOMO's food was just meh for me. I felt like I didn't get a lot of chicken for $15 & got substantially more just plain ol' white rice. It normally comes with mayo-based cole slaw but they were willing to substitute for me, which was nice of them, so I tried the corn. They also had, in my opinion, almost too sweet tasting pickled radish as a side as well. The glaze - Sweet Garlic was very unimpressive. I tasted just like a sweet soy garlic & there wasn't much of it applied to the chicken/surrounding rice. I think what would've helped is to ask customers/offer them the option of more sauce on the side. I didn't feel like I got much value out of my meal & they're trying to offer more sustainable to-go utensils n' such, but the box (as far as I know) isn't recyclable & I'm not sure if the plastic that the radish side comes in can be recycled or not either.
The food cart area does contain porta-potties with a little hand washing station, so I think that the cart area is worth visiting, but if there's other options open, I'll try another cart before going...
Read moreWe used to order Fomo chicken frequently until we moved to North Portland (sometimes twice a month). It was one of our favorite spots for fried chicken! We recently ordered takeout again and I am so sad to say it was one of the worst and most expensive takeout experiences we've had (we ordered on Caviar, so expensive because of Caviar's upcharge and delivery fees). The chicken was clearly old, and we got about 4 small pieces in the basket of Southern fried chicken, whereas the spicy chicken came with a decent serving. The corn, which used to be my favorite side, was super salty and clearly mixed with old corn and had large pieces of char mixed in (to the point of being inedible). The mashed potatoes were watery and bland. I'm so disappointed and saddened to lose a former staple for our takeout. What the heck is going on?! I hope they can regroup and serve delicious Korean fried...
