Only used to go here for their lunch buffet even though I felt like my partner and I would always get treated a bit differently probably because of the way we dressed and looked (her dressing in a Japanese fashion called egl and me dressing more on the punk side). I would never say this but it was pretty apparent but still the man who work there was genuinely nice and the woman gave us what I would consider a very fake condescending attitude including comments which we both agreed were pretty outwardly judgmental. Still we frequented the place tried to ignore it and not take it to personally but since they never brought the buffet back and they're only options are overpriced single dishes and not even a variety plate which would be nice to at least replace the buffet in some way I will never be going back unfortunately. I'm guessing they're making enough money on takeout so they don't need to do this anymore. There is no more community or simple comfort which is all my Indian parents ever stressed to me is being important. No more sitting down no more enjoying a variety of foods that was already a little overpriced but I was fine with it just to be able to sit in a place. I don't understand why since we can all do this again that none of these places are opening back up to the public but I guess they prefer it that way so they don't have to deal with people judging by how I was always treated when I went there. I miss being able to get semi-traditional Indian food since I have moved away from home and my parents. I'm sure I would be treated differently if I wasn't adopted but I guess I should be used to it by now because it's been a problem since I grew into myself. I have been living for almost my entire life being treated like garbage by a lot of people even though I am the friendliest person on the planet normally. Good luck with everything... I know money rules all but I know your culture teaches better manners and you should consider your customer wants instead of profit but more power to you. I'm sure you'll do great in this city the way it's going. All I'm saying is I know you can have people sit back in your restaurant or at least create a variety dish to replace the buffet but as long as you're making money why make all of your customers who came in for that happy? Even when I called to ask about it I sensed an attitude which is the only reason I am writing this review. I am sick of getting treated like crap just because I asked questions or look different than you do. I am a good person and treat people with as much respect as I feel like I deserve but never seem to get it back anymore. From what I have learned about being raised by South Indian parents is that this is not the way we're supposed to treat each other but I'm sure if you knew where I came from things would be different which I find very unfortunate. Businesses don't last forever. Things will fade. Time will tell. Good luck...
Read moreSaw that there was puked up rice and food in the parking lot, that was a red flag. A car parked behind my car blocking me in, for 5 min I waited after asking the staff if they knew who’s car it was and if it could move. They all watched me but no one came to move the car, so I started to maneuver around the car blocking me in when all of a sudden a SCREAMING BLATHERING women comes RUNNING AT MY CAR, SCREAMING, AND CRYING, she screams that her staff told her not to move her car and they told her to make me wait because I parked where she likes to park….. Now, there are other spots she could have parked, she just chose to block me in on purpose, and it seemed that she was lying, blaming the kitchen staff on her not moving her car!! She was just sitting there watching me wanting me to be held against my will?? and then ran out when she saw I tried to leave, WHO DOES THAT?? That’s like the definition of holding someone against their will!! AND this parking lot has no specific signs that even say it is restaurant parking, let alone designated parking spaces, AND LIKE I SAID SHE HAD LOTS OF ROOM. She is the CRAZIEST person I’ve encountered in this town in a very long time, including street people! I will never ever ever ever ever ever eat at this place and I will tell everyone I know not to go there forever because she is rude and psychotic and someone barfed their food up in...
Read moreMy favorite Indian food in the city by far! This gem is a find, you just need to know where to look. The brightly colored paint scheme leads you up to a second story dining area in a converted turn of the century home gone restaurant. The cozy dining area has only recently been reopened for a limited in-house dining option. The floorspace is relatively limited keeping the number of diners small, the noise level low, and the atmosphere intimate. The staff, as I recall, are kind, though I've not had much interaction with them as my family mostly enjoys takeout. The owner is a lovely woman, whose name I can never remember (I'm terrible with names), with a charming British accent and I always enjoy chatting with her as she rings me up. Impressively she notices when I haven't been in for a while which is endearing, making me feel as though I were visiting the restaurant of a dear friend. The food is by far my favorite Indian food in Portland. Spice level made to order, -2 for my family, spice wusses that we are, but you can get it as hot as you like. Our favorite dishes include chicken tikka masala, vegetable korma, pollack paneer, vegetable samosas ,garlic naan, and depending on who's in charge of ordering that evening, mango lassis. Truly 💕...
