All these people leaving 1-2 star reviews because they have never tried mochi donuts or have a "local guide" tag on their name, shame on you.
As a gluten-free dairy-free human it is not easy to find a donut substitute. Mikiko's donuts are out of this world for someone who is limited like myself. I love the savory-sweet combo and know what to expect as someone who just commits to not enjoying real donuts anymore. At a certain point you just give up because nothing will compare to the real thing, but I was over the moon when I finally got my hands on Mikiko's creations. I would leave more stars if I could :)
Instead of leaving a poor review use y'alls time to do something better with your life. Instead of spending your time bashing a small business just don't go again! Leave your comments to yourself. Y'all clearly enjoy leaving 5-star reviews on the whitest companies ever (Starbucks, Chipotle, Elmers, etc). Get over yourselves and understand this: It's easy to tear things down like a small business in this overly competitive city, but it takes actual effort and real work to build something like this crew has. Instead of complaining about the "pricing" because you're used to spending under $2 for a cheap basic donut, do some research on the ingredients and understand what you're paying for. Understand the cost increases after the pandemic. Think about the neighborhood this business is located in and the taxes they pay on top of making sure their staff is compensated.
Thank you, Mikiko for everything you do! You provide such a lovely experience to so many people's lives and we can't wait to see how your business grows in Portland.
To all the haters: If you can't love yourself how the hell are you gonna love...
Read moreIf Mikiko were in a location more convenient for me, I would definitely be gaining a lot of weight from going there more often. It's a really cute little doughnut shop specializing in "mochi donuts," which have an excellent, chewy texture that I find more satisfying than regular. In addition, they have some really awesome flavors such as the Horchata Pudding (I devoured two in one sitting), and my partner and I were definitely fans of the Black Sesame & Jelly. They have some really good rotating flavors as well. The selection size at a time isn't all that big, but the offerings are pure quality.
I also got to try some of the brunch savory offerings with my friends on their unofficial "re-opening" event on Sunday. Their sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich is served with the mochi doughnuts as the bread, and it tastes like a really good dumpling with some sweetness. My friends quite liked the katsu dog and chicken sandwiches as well.
I've already been recommending this place to friends who haven't tried it yet, and I honestly cannot shut up about how cool this place is. Service can be a bit slower when busy, and probably because they were making sandwiches at the time. However, the employees are nice, and the place is clean. I really want to go back as soon as possible, it's a great little...
Read moreI was introduced to Mikiko from a colleague who said they preferred them better to a new mochi donut spot we were talking about. I finally got to try Mikiko at the preview night for the Holiday night market (I don’t make it to the East side as much as I wish I could/used to). My colleague was right. These mochi donuts are suuuuuupper legit.
My four year old picked passion fruit and I picked ube. The kiddo was super quiet while eating her's... Until she asked for a bite of mine. I told her only if i could have some of hers. She told me i was only allowed to have a small bite. But i could have two small bites if she could have hot cocoa after - this little girl... Okay fine. So i took two little bites of hers, only to find her grubby hands on my ube while i was enjoying my two small bites. So this girl goes "I'm sorry mommy, but they're both good." She was right. Needless to say, we sat in quiet bliss enjoying our sweet, chewy, tangy, perfectly flavored goodies. I'll be springing for their subscription box as my birthday splurge this year.
If my discerning colleague and ever so picky four year old can agree on a place, it's definitely worth trying and visiting regularly. Trust me....
