SE 28th is a buffet of bars and restaurants — a two-pod food cart corridor with every global craving covered. But when it comes to dessert, your options shrink fast. With Fifty Licks sadly torched out of its Burnside anchor spot, and Cheese & Crack leaning heavily on rainbow soft-serve aesthetics, Staccato Gelato quietly holds the throne for traditional scoops and colorful character.
Tucked into a modest storefront, Staccato opens up like a crayon box. Inside, oversized paper lanterns float like balloons above playful murals and red retro chairs — one with a lovingly duct-taped cushion that somehow adds to the charm. It’s the kind of place that feels equally welcoming to toddlers, dates, and board game geeks. (Yes, there’s a well-loved shelf of them near the window.)
The menu is a triple threat: gelato, coffee, and weekend donuts. We kept it classic — a scoop of their tangy blueberry in a cup and a root beer float gelato on a cone. $3 each. That’s not a typo — just a blessed anomaly in a world where a single scoop can run you a full Lincoln. The flavors hit a sweet spot: flavorful without being cloying, nostalgic without being bland.
We took our treats to a table near the west-facing window. Evening sun spilled through the storefront glass as we soaked in the slow magic of almost-summer — dessert in hand, mural at our backs, and the soft buzz of local chatter in the air. It’s the kind of spot that doesn’t try too hard because it doesn’t need to. Staccato Gelato just is — and that’s more...
Read moreI have tried many different GELATO 🍨 and SORBETS 🍧 from STACCATO it’s CREAMY, DELICIOUS and FRESH every time. I crave it all the time and when I found out that their gelato is healthy then ice cream I was ecstatic because my body seems to gain every pound of regular ice cream so I had to limit myself but this GELATO from STACCATO doesn’t seem to do that and Thank you GOD for the little pleasures of life. I like gelato whether its winter, fall, spring, or summer. I am not affiliated to this company so please take my honest advice to heart. Also, if we don’t support this company and many others during the off-seasons then we may not have them for the on seasons!! Thanks for reading my review and please share with you friends! I personally have a thing about buying local and supporting small businesses. Cheers and hope you enjoy STACCATO just as...
Read moreWe were visiting a relative at the hospital. Decided to get some geleto. They were only about 6 minutes away. When we arrived they weren't to buzy. The counter lady was friendly and very accommodating with the samples of the flavors. The size of the scoops are a little small, but the price is in the range of their competitors. 3 scoops for $5.00. Ordered, strawberry lemonade, creamsicle, espresso, stracciatella, chocolate and lemon sorbet. The place looked clean. My only negative would be,at shift change,a male employee who had just arrived on a bike, placed it in the back, got ready to work, with his back to us washed his hands, but could see a large amount of sweat soaking through his back of shirt, from riding his bike.I would recommend changing it before working in the future. The geleto was awesome,we...
