I loved this place. The service used to be amazing the food was good. The guys that work there really make us feel welcomed like we're family. Oh and the espresso is to die for delicious for all you espresso fans. I ALWAYS order the lamb platter with injera. I think that's how that is spelled... however the woman who cooks the food there for the past 2 years, seems to think that I am an idiot. I came in for the 2nd time when my favorite guys weren't on duty and for the 2nd time within 1.5years she gave me beef when I asked for lamb and had the nerve to say it's lamb. As if I am eating it for the 1st time in my life and don't know the difference from lamb and beef. Let me tell you something... I eat lamb every 2-3days because I hate the taste of beef and I have been eating lamb for over 18 years of my life. I am 30 years old and have 3 kids and 1 on the way. During my pregnancies I especially hate beef. So for this lady to insult my intelligence not once but 2x's within a 2 year period makes me change my mind about one of my favorite restaurants in Portland. I used to love this place but 2 out of 3 times i get this treatment it clearly isn't going to change unless they fire her for assuming that the black women who come here are dumb and unaccustomed to lamb, so therefore she can serve us beef and get away with charging us for lamb. I took 2 more bites just to see if I was crazy and NO this b really did this to me AGAIN! I thank the brothers for making sure I got lamb after the 1st time she did it and he gave me my $2 back from when she charged me the 1st time for lamb when she gave me beef. So I am praying that one of the brothers sees this ASAP and gets back to me so that I don't have to forget this place. Because I really love the lamb when I actually get it and I come for the injera and the kindness that the 2 brothers show my family every time we come in. Otherwise I would just keep on going to the Somali restaurants for lamb or goat meat w/spaghetti or rice. I really hate to have to give this place 1 star after leaving a 5star review for all my past experiences I had prior to 2016. They need to bring back the old cook because this woman is working my nerves giving me beef calling it lamb. I know what chicken taste like, it don't taste like beef or lamb, I know what goat taste like and it don't taste like beef or chicken. I know what LAMB taste like and it Does not in any sort of way TASTE LIKE BEEF or chicken or fish!!! I'M 30 NOT 16, I AM MARRIED TO A SOMALI MAN! I know what LAMB taste like. I was raised by a Kenyan man from age 3 and have eaten food from several African countries in my life on a regular basis! I have photos of us here on my 25th birthday in 2012!!! Because it WAS my favorite place to eat. I want it back. I am hungry for...
Read moreMy family and I have eaten here several times, and really like it. It's affordable and the staff is friendly and welcoming- a step above a lot of Portland service. They have a one mesab- the traditional wicker table and I haven't found another Ethiopian Restaurant that has one (displayed in the window doesn't count). Food is served in a gebeta - the big traditional tray but they put the liquidy stuff in bowls so that you can dump it onto your injera, or not which I think is a nice touch. The Key Wot:was fantastically spiced (we nearly licked the bowl), the Kitfo comes with an amazing homemade cottage cheese and the Ye’abesha Gomen is the best I've had in Portland. We will...
Read moreI’m so glad I found this restaurant! I was looking for a place to get Ethiopian food that had good vegan options. The food was delicious, and the service was excellent.
I started with the sambusas, which were perfectly crispy and flavorful. For my main course, I had the vegan combo platter, which came with a variety of dishes, including lentils, chickpeas, vegetables, and a delicious stew. Everything was cooked to perfection, and the flavors were so well-balanced.
The service was also excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive, and they were happy to answer my questions about the menu.
I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for delicious...
