So, let me just start by saying that I've been enjoying Portland's abundance of Thai food for 11 years and did the same in New York City for years before that. I can say, without hesitation, that Siri Thai is one of THE BEST Thai food experiences I've ever had - EVER - anywhere. Not only is their food SO AMAZINGLY GOOD, but their service is impeccable. I WISH Siri Thai's customer service was the gold standard for all service interactions... the world would be a much kinder, gentler place. My boyfriend and I were home sick when I called in our first order for pick up. I gave our annoying dietary restriction requests and - even though I could hear that the place was slammed in the background of the call - the person on the phone couldn't have been more patient, and was kind enough to read the order back to me clearly and intentionally. I guess my request for no egg got lost in the mix of the hub-bub, though, because once my boyfriend got back with the food we learned there was egg in his pad thai. Before we realized that, though, my boyfriend exclaimed how EXTREMELY NICE the person was at the counter, ringing him up. They were exhausted from work but still explained how they loved their job and were super gracious even when the phone was ringing. I called to see how we could maybe rectify the situation and - because they were so busy - the person said we could bring in the pad thai with egg and exchange it. Once they learned that we were home sick, though, they IMMEDIATELY said they would deliver to us at no extra charge. When the delivery person arrived, my boyfriend tried to tip them and THEY REFUSED because they acknowledged the mix-up. ...let me repeat myself... This restaurant full of tired, stressed workers quickly delivered beyond their means because we were sick and then refused to take our tip!!! WHEN DOES THAT EVER HAPPEN?!?!? We just moved back to the southeast and were hesitant to do so, having lived in North/NE PDX forever... but now that we know about Siri Thai, we're so glad to be back! We will probably lose everything ordering there every night, but goddammit - it'll be worth it - because SIRI THAI RULES!...
Read moreNever go here! Terrible customer service!!! The first time I had a problem, there was melted plastic in my kids food and all they offered was a credit for more food. We didn't go back for about a year then started going back and everything was okay until it wasn't. We got delivery like usual, we had to call after an hour to check on our food and they said it was on the way, it came 30 minutes later. We asked for a receipt or anything to sign and the guy gave us nothing. When we opened the bag the food was so hot it melted through the bottom of the plastic to-go boxes. The next morning I checked my account and they had charged an extra $11 from the night before. When I went into the restaurant the employees said there was an 15% gratuity on bills $50 or more.... Well this isn't stated anywhere on any menu or elsewhere in the restaurant or receipt. Well I added my bill up and my food was supposed to be $45 with a $4 delivery charge (for deliveries under 3 miles), but what I was charged was a $6 delivery fee for over 3 miles (I live 2.5 miles away) and then an extra 18% added because the $6 put the bill at $50.80. It is so wrong to charge gratuity without stating it and plus I ordered delivery that wasn't even $50 worth. And in the end they wouldn't do anything to resolve it and said to talk to the owner. I called every day for 4 days and the owner was never there or it was her day off or wouldn't be there for another 3 days. We will never dine here again! What a horrible way to treat and take advantage of...
Read moreI was debating on giving this place another star, but as the meal wore on, the service kept deteriorating. The food is in competition for some of the worst Thai food I have had anywhere in the world.
We ordered 4 dishes for 4 people including pad thai, panang curry, crab fried rice, and beef salad. Of the four dishes, only the crab fried rice was redeemable although the portion of crab was rather parsimonious compared with other Thai restaurants in the area. The chef was on a tear with the sugar, and every dish turned out sickeningly sweet, so this is definitely the place to go if you want your meal to taste like dessert.
Then there was the service, or lack of. Despite the fact that we were one of 2 parties in the whole restaurant, the server disappeared to a table in the corner to play on her phone throughout the meal. It started poorly when we were given dirty silverware. When we asked for more, that was dirty too, so we ended up having to clean it ourselves with napkins and tea. Her lame joke that they'd have to fire the dishwasher did little to cover her apathy. I had to go to the front counter to 1) find chopsticks, 2) to get chili (no chili in fish sauce available btw), 3) and to ask for the bill. I was too tired to ask for refills of water to wash down the sickeningly sweet flavors. Needless to say, we...
