I live close by this place and have been here before and I always get the same thing. This last time I walked in to pick up my phone order and I stated as such, the guy at the register was extremely rude and short with me. However, I let it go because usually the portion sizes and food are so good that they can get away with being rude honestly. I even tipped him generously, regardless. After he motioned to the bag for me to take in the corner I took it home and realized that every single dish I ordered was incorrect. I was missing two items completely, had been given extra rice i did not order. I opened the food I was given and gave it a try anyway, I believe I was given orange chicken and the orange sauce tasted of dish water. I decided that none of this was what I wanted to eat. I'm never a person who takes food back but I packed up my incorrect order and drove back to the rude man who ignored me. I told him I wanted a refund, he brought out 3 different people from the kitchen. All of them argued with me and each other. A woman went back into the kitchen and yelled loudly about the situation. I begged for my money back several times, so I could move on. They did not want to give me a refund and ended up only giving me half of my money back but they took the entire bag of food. About 20 mins later I was sick to my stomach from the few bites of food that I had from their kitchen. I'm never a person who complains but I've worked in food service for 10 years and I will never subject myself to the unprofessional, unsavory and unneighborly demeanor of this establishment and I don't believe you should either.

*in response to owners reply. I didn't order orange chicken. That's the sauce you incorrectly gave me. And I was missing another item that you never gave me, so how could I bring it back? Why would i want more food when you are rude and even the incorrect food tasted bad? Also your hostility and argumentative nature is exactly your issue. All throughout these reviews your replies prove that you're unprofessional. Take a business class or watch a Ted talk...

Super expensive. 90 bucks for 4 people had only the dinner menu option because it was Xmas eve I'm guessing. They separated all the sauces from the entrees like we asked so nothing got soggy on our drive home. The food is and always has been by far the best Chinese food in town it's not greasy it's not gross the batter is super fluffy and has a bit of crunch to it easily can be cooked in the air fryer if you'd like it a little bit more crunchy or just ask them to cook it more for you they will. The friars are clean all their food therefore taste clean. Under the battery of the chicken if you see it which is unlikely cuz you'll be stuck in your face with it you'll see that every piece is a good piece of all white chicken no fat no gross gristle no tough parts. It's really good quality. I can't overstate how good it is and this is coming from someone who really doesn't like Chinese food. I only ever like it from here. We go to the one on Woodstock. There's also one in Milwaukie . I find the food delicious at both the phone call service at Milwaukie might be a little bit better, maybe that's just like nitpicking though. And yes it was expensive but let me tell you the bag of food we got?! It had to have weighed like 50 lbs! I had three boys eating with me and a surprise guest and we still have leftovers for days and not because we didn't need it because we stuffed ourselves it was just so much food that was given to us. Always recommend this place whenever anyone asked me a good Chinese restaurant and will...

Any Chinese Food restaurant in Portland, Oregon demands I minimize my expectations because there just isn't good chinese food in Portland, Oregon. No, there isn't. Don't tell me about the to-die-for place over on Alberta, or that hole in the wall on NE Sandy that has amazing Chinese cuisine, because no, there is no good Chinese food in Portland. I'm fairly certain all "Chinese" restaurants in Portland get their pre-mixed wholesale food from the same warehouse hidden somewhere on the east side probably near a MAX station and at least two meth dealers.

That said, Wong's Garden buys from the exact same wholesaler as the rest and their food is just as mediocre as the rest as well. Regarding the service (I only order to go), I can't complain. The three tiny ladies that run the joint have always been friendly to me and my kids and will occasionally throw in free pot stickers or those yellow cookies at the register. They never get my name correct, which has become quite entertaining for us, but I don't hold it against them, I don't even know their names.

Compared to the Thai place next door, which is pretty darn good, Wong's Garden is nothing more than fast food in disguise. For my kids and I in a pinch though, it'll do.

Set your expectations to Portland Chinese standards and this restaurant competes with most of them...

Wong's Garden is one of the best Chinese joints in VanPort. We'd rather drive past dozens of other Chinese restaurants to dine at Wong's because they serve tasty food in huge portions at fantastic prices. My wife likes to order way more than we'll eat and bring home the rest. There's usually enough for three or four more meals—all for about $100. Highlights: For spice lovers, the Szechuan chicken is a standout. Ordered “extra spicy,” it arrives perfectly balanced with heat and flavor. The orange chicken is another favorite—crispy, tangy, and satisfying. My wife swears by the broccoli beef, while the pork lo mein and egg foo young also deserve special mention for their quality and flavor. Room for Improvement: Not every dish hits the same high mark. The fried shrimp have more batter than I care for. The hot and sour soup is decent but not very spicy. I still want to try their wonton soup. The Chinese spicy beef is just okay. The Verdict: Wong’s Garden feels like a bit of a secret. It’s a modest, no-frills space, but the kitchen consistently delivers where it matters most—flavor, portion size, and value. While I usually lean toward Thai food eight times out of ten, when the craving for Chinese hits, Wong’s is my go-to.✌🏼 -VanPort Insider

Honestly I love having a super cheap option for Chinese food but you really get what you pay for. I have only been 3 times and they have gotten my order wrong twice. Maybe they really don’t know what the difference is between chow mein, lo mein and sub gum but I do and now I’m pissed especially after arguing with the guy about what they gave me and he assured me it was the chow mein (translates to fried noodle) to which I got sub gum (which I hate). His words were “chow mein is not yellow noodle (yes it is) and it is actually the lo mein” (roughly translates to cold noodle) (and again I didn’t get either of those) Update- been getting the general tsao chicken with fried rice and side crab Rangoon like once a month for the last year! It’s the good kinda cheap Chinese food
