Applebee's Grill + Bar — Restaurant in Portsmouth

This place is an absolute joke, very unprofessional wait staff and they need much more training while serving alcohol. My elderly parent's frequent this place quite often. I have spoken to them several times on serving my parent's more than they can handle. My father suffers from dementia, which does not help matters. I understand they do not need to know his medical history. But I have stopped in to talk to them about my parent's situation. I actually spoke with the GM Scott and other manager's as well. They basically looked right through me. Then to boot, when my parent's had their next visit, they went and told my parent's that I was in the restaurant and asked them to stop serving them and were laughing about it. Now how unprofessional was that. So while they were at one of their visits (January 21, 2020) an anonymous caller called the Portsmouth police and stated that their my be an older couple in the restaurant that drives (and explained the description of their car). That night I received a phone call from officer Webber from the Portsmouth police dept., and he explained to me that anonymous called to let Portsmouth police about this situation. He waited for them to come out of the restaurant and explained to them upon his interaction that they should not be driving. So my wife and I had to drive up from Londonderry, NH to pick my parent's up. I went into the restaurant and asked for them to show me my parent's receipt because I wanted to see how much they had served them. They read me the riot act and told me they could not release that information, while all of the wait staff stood in the back corner whispering and giggling about the entire situation. Now 2 weeks later February 4, 2020 officer Webber decided to target them while at the restaurant. He stated he waited for them to come out, he followed them for a while, made up some bogus excuse that they had done something wrong while driving and arrested my 80yr old for a DWI. This is what Applebees is all about, they don't care about the patrons, they care about the mighty dollar. I have tried calling corporate several time over the last several months over this situation because myself and my other siblings were very concerned over this matter and were worried of having this happen to my mother. We came here on a Saturday. There was numerous empty tables yet there was still customers waiting to be seated. Our food come out quick, hot and was very good. The reason I only gave them 2 stars is because. After waiting for the waitress to come over and ask if we wanted refills on our drinks she forgot to actually bring the drinks. We watched her walking around the restaurant and doing what ever. She never had food or drinks or seemed to be doing any work. During this time we asked the host for some drinks, who also forgot our drinks. I finally ended up drinking the rest of my sister's drink that was just melted ice at this point. When the waitress finally came to see if we wanted anything else I asked for the check. Yes i was kinda rude at this point, but seriously I just drank my sister's drink because I didn't want to wait for my own drink anymore and I have already asked twice for a drink. So now she rudely replies to me that they are busy, however there was more empty tables then full ones. At this point the waitress went to get the check and the manager who could tell we was upset came over to ask if she can get us anything and I said the check. By the time the waitress came over to give us our check we had already got it from the manager and was dividing the bill. We went there for a nice lunch, but spent most of the time waiting for drinks or the check. This shouldn't happen while you see a lot of empty tables and your waitresses either behind the bar or not to be found. And a customer should never hear excuses for why she had to drink someone else's drink because she didn't want to...

I wish I could give zero stars! My friend and I drove from Saco, ME to Portsmouth to do a little bit of shopping and decided on Applebees for dinner. We waited a considerable amount of time to be seated, but then we thought all would be ok. Our server got us our drinks and asked if we were ready to order. My friend needed another minute so I ordered an appetizer. The appetizer came, we ate it all, and we realized our server had never come by to take our order. I had to go to the bar, and then stand and wait because no employees were present on the floor. The server finally emerged from out back and seemed confused when I told him we had been waiting to order. “Oh, my bad” he said. We decided to go ahead and order. The person that brought out our food was pleasant. The server paid no attention to us and we had to wait for refills and flag him down, and then the check never came. My friend got irritated and went to the car while I waited. Finally got the check but then had to wait and wait and wait for him to come take my card and then get it back to me. I ALWAYS tip well, and am not ashamed to say I didn’t tip at all this evening. It wasn’t slammed, our server had plenty of time to stand around and talk and scratch his back…. We won’t...
