Looking for a fish fry “you buy we fry” place, we found this to be one of the few open on a Sunday. We’re originally from South Central LA where fish fry places are just about a staple...that said, here’s my review: the food was well seasoned, we ordered the fish and fries and fish sandwich plates. While Swai isn’t our preferred fish (we prefer whiting and snapper) it was quite tasty...I will say, we weren’t fans of the sauce...a remoulade would be a more refreshing alternative to the creamy and dense sauce used that was more tangy and sweet than anything.
Where this review yields 3 and not 4 or 5 stars lies in the customer service experience and inflexibility.
Customer service: Not sure if it was the masks, oven range/hood fan noise or the music playing, the cashier and helper seemed to have a difficult time hearing me. I ordered 3 fish and fries plates, a fish sandwich plate and a large order of fries. What I got was 2 fish sandwich plates, the three fish and fries plates and no large order of fries; and the cashier seemed to no know the menu well when I asked her questions.
When I got my order I asked for tarter sauce and was given cocktail sauce. Small things but they contribute to the overall experience.
Inflexibility: While I completely understand business practices and consistency, it would be nice to be able to a-la-cart order. For example, I asked if I can turn the dish sandwich into a Po’Boy but was told that was not possible. It seemed inconsequential to accommodate the request however, maybe there’s a very valid reason.
Again, the food was tasty. I’m less concerned about the price (albeit very reasonable) and more interested in the throughput.

Read moreFirst time trying Chef Skips and the food was good. Even though it was delivery everything was fresh. I had the philly with fries. While the bread was soft it was more like a hot dog bun than the sub bread you would expect. The bun just doesn't stand up to the filling. Not a deal breaker for sure, but could have been better. The steak and peppers were phenomenal. The meat tender, juicy and seasoned well, the cheese was on point and the peppers cooked perfectly with a touch of bite left to them. Really good. Chef Skips special sauce is good, but didn't prefer it on my cheese steak. I'm sure it has its place but is pretty sweet and I don't want my cheese steak sweet. Luckily, It wasn't swimming in the sauce so I was able to wipe it off. Fries were were fresh, but the oil they were cooked in probably needed changing. They were seasoned well though. I think the only thing I was disappointed by was I asked specifically for ketchup for my fries and none was given. I was really craving fries with ketchup and was almost looking forward to that more than the cheese steak. Just moved to my current location and didn't have any of my own...so eh. Read moreThis was my 1st time going to this place and I will definitely be back. I walked in and noticed the restaurant was really clean and the lady at the register was really nice and welcoming. She notified me of the special and asked if I had any questions about the menu. After looking at the menu I went with the crab cake shrimp and fish meal. They allowed me to substitute the fries for cabbage and Im so glad i did. The shrimp was big and juicy, fried perfect with a good taste and snap to them. A side of sauce was im the container as well and it was delicious. The crab cake was like straight crab meat. It tasted so good and it was big. No filler. The fish was not perfect. The flavor of the batter and skin where good but the fish itself was somewhat mushy. The cabbage was probably the best cabbage I ever had. It was so flavorful and juicy. After eating it I wanted to go back and purchase the rest of the cabbage in stock cause it was so good. I will definitely come back to this place and try something else and hopefully the cabbage stays...
