Great food, but the worst mistreatment I've ever experienced at a restaurant establishment in my life, bar none.
My mom and I went for dinner, hoping to have a nice relaxing evening. We walked in, saw the sign that said "Please wait to be seated". The restaurant was empty except for two tables with guests.
There was a man standing off to the side (he was our server and we later discovered he's the owner) never approached to greet us or seat us, he simply stared at us, and then said, "can I help you with something?", as though we were interrupting him or in the wrong place. His demeanor was unfriendly and unwelcoming.
We pointed to the sign and said we were there for dinner. He waved his hand in the direction of the tables and said "over there. Third table on the left." Rude.
We waited a few minutes and he finally showed up with menus. No matter what questions we asked about the menu choices, he shrugged and said, "it's up to you." We weren't asking what he recommended, we were asking about spice levels and other specifics. It was like pulling teeth with this person.
His entire demeanor was rude, dismissive and resentful, as though he was barely suppressing his dislike of us and the customers in general.
Anything that was asked of him was done begrudgingly, and he took forever to bring it. For example, when ordering, we asked for two sides of mango chutney. We received only one. I tried to get his attention, but he looked at me and walked away. I had to get up and walk over to ask for the second order we didn't receive. He told me we only ordered one. I told him no,we ordered two,one for each of us, which he then argued about. Finally,he said he'd bring the second order of chutney. (Basically a scoop of chutney in a small container.)
My mother's meal was nearly completed and he still hadn't brought the chutney. I went back to the kitchen (where he was sitting and eating) and asked for the order, we were nearly finished.
He was visibly irritated, got up and went inside the kitchen and I went back to the table. About 10 minutes later he FINALLY appeared with the chutney, after my mom's meal was now finished.
There only three tables filled at this time,so the restaurant was not busy. He was simply dragging his feet, eating his meal, etc. Unacceptable.
We had planned to stay for dessert, but the behavior from this owner was so rude and hostile that we wanted to pay and go.
I said I was not leaving a tip for this reason (something I never do). Instead of attempting to resolve the situation if only for the reputation of his business, he handed over the payment pad, gave me the receipt, and walked away without saying a word. Not even a "thank you for coming in" as we left.
Absolutely horrible experience, I don't care how good the food is, will never go there again, and I'll let anyone I know exactly how we...
Read moreLast night my wife and I decided we wanted to do go on a date and find somewhere new. We find ourselves a bit of ametuer food critic experts on not only cuisine but atmosphere and staff. This place ticked all the right boxes. It was clean, the music was Indian and upbeat. The staff was clean and authentic. The waiter that helped us was very nice and helped explain many of the dishes and I asked for his favorites. He obliged and I took one of his suggestions stepping out of what I normally would order and I'm happy I did. The food was amazing and the portions were near perfect. We ordered an appetizer of Aaloo Tiki, which is a potato cake with mixed vegetables and Indian spices deep fried to perfection with two different Indian sauces. It was super tasty. These can be a bit overpriced as you only get two for $6.99 but they were well worth it. Most of their entrees are priced fair at $13.99 with generous portions. This may or may not satisfy people who like to have their plates heaping with food but I found it perfect. I ordered a chicken dish that the chicken was grilled and tasted perfect with just the right amount of grilled char and tenderness of the meat. My wife and I are not huge on a lot of heat so we ordered mild to medium. Not every Indian restaurant I've gone to has got this spot on. I was impressed that they did this just right. The sauces on both dishes were spot on and the spices were nothing but perfection hitting every salivatory gland making me want more. I was fully satisfied with the meal and will find myself going back to try so of their many dishes on the menu. Can hardly wait for the next experience...
Read moreIndia House in Post Falls brought me a taste of Punjab I didn’t expect to find this far from home. From the moment I opened the menu, I knew I was in for something authentic—the welcome note itself set the tone with warmth, history, and pride in the cuisine.
I ordered the vegetarian Punjabi biryani, and every bite was comforting, flavorful, and rich in aroma. Unlike the South Indian style where biryani is often accompanied by fresh onions and a lemon wedge by default, this dish came true to Punjabi roots—with crisp fried onions delicately used in the biryani itself. I asked for the fresh onion and lemon wedge on the side, and the staff brought it out right away, which made the meal complete for my palate. Small touch—but appreciated deeply!
The nimbu pani (lemon water) was a highlight. Fresh, minty, and balanced—it made the whole experience feel like a complete home-style meal.
Service was warm and grounded. My server Sawan (what a poetic name—straight out of Bollywood songs!) made me feel welcome without ever being overbearing.
As a vegetarian traveler, I value a restaurant that not only honors its roots but adapts with warmth—and India House did just that. With thoughtful service, authentic preparation, and respect for preferences, this place is more than just a stop—it’s an experience.
Thank you for saving me a flight to Punjab while offering the same soulful taste, hospitality, and heart.
Highly...
