As I found out this afternoon (02/09/2013), the little border town of Presidio, Texas holds a few hidden gems. One of them is the El Patio restaurant.
It's an unassuming kind of place. In fact, if you were looking for anything fancy, you wouldn't give El Patio a second glance. The decor is basic, with something of a Don Quixote theme, but the place is 'scrupulously clean' and the food is some of the best Mexican cuisine I've ever tasted, and that's an assessment based upon ordering the 'El Patio Plate', a house-special consisting of Beef and Cheese Enchiladas soaked in a dubious-looking but outstanding red sauce, a Beef Taco (best taco I've ever eaten), and Chile Relleno (fabulous), accompanied by the usual suspects (refried beans & rice). And, because it looked so appetizing, I followed it all with a Tres Leches torta... Divine...
Basically, everything was home-made to an extremely high standard (except the Tres Leches, which is sourced locally), and the view to the kitchen is open and, again, it is very clean.
Looking at previous reviews of this place, I have no idea who 'Cisco Plant' is, but I can only assume (s)he's a jealous competitor, because the restaurant as I found it is the complete antithesis of what Cisco describes...

Read moreService to my son and I at El Patio in Presidio Texas is absolutely the worse. The food is pretty good but I stopped tipping the waitresses. They don't say Hello or Buenos Dias to my son or myself. They have an additude if you ask for a second glass of water even if you bring your glass to the counter yourself. Today I ordered the usual fried catfish for my son nothing for myself. Catfish includes one trip to salad bar. My son did not finish his salad and I ate what was left on the small plate. The waitress added six dollars to my bill. The owner said new rule. I like the owner so now I know. As far as the waitresses go... the only tip I have is advice.... lose...
Read moreAvoid this place !!!! last Saturday ( 8/18/2012 ) I waited 20 minutes for a menu and 30 minutes for the food that was cooked in rancid grease. We refused to eat the food, my daughter found a black pubic looking hair in her omelet. The waiter never came back to our table even though we were the only customers there!!! Then the idiot added 20% gratuity to our tab. This guy was terrible, the food was terrible and the flies were so bad that I kept my menu to swat them with. Don’t waste your time and money at El Patio in Presidio, cross the border into Ojinaga and go to Lobby’s, you will get a super meal and...
