We were invited up to Mantua with family to go to the Founders Day celebration and have dinner at Sydneys. I have driven through Sardine Canyon many times and have noticed the little town of Mantua with it's resevoir but never realized that there was such a quaint little restaurant with a Woodsy feel. We ordered the fish and chips and the fish was deep fried beere battered Halibut. Best fish and chips I have had since visiting the northwest. The fish was moist and portions plentiful. Tartar sauce was delicious with just the right amount of dill. We substituted fries for sweet potato fries and they were done just right and portions plentiful. My wife and I shared this entree and had plenty to eat. The owner is friendly and very hands on, visiting tables and greeting guests. After dinner we enjoyed music from a local band at the campground. This little restaurant has to be on your list of places to go! We drove up from Salt Lake and can't wait to go back to try other menu items. I would definitelty recommend. It was a little warm inside as the owner has been waiting for an additonal air conditioner(delayed due to heat wave and Covid) with but the food ambience and experience, more than made up...
Read moreWe went to Sydneyâs tonight for dinner. We made reservations early in the day for 5:30 (I was notified online that they donât take reservations unless 7+ people) We arrived and were placed in the outside portion in a small, cramped corner booth. It was 96° outside and probably 90° in this room. Our waitress was flustered and made us feel incredibly rushed with ordering.
I ordered a club sandwich and salad with ranch. I received the club sandwich and while it may appear to look good, it was soggy and wasnât very flavorful. My salad was warm and wilted and the ranch tasted more of a watery tarter sauce than actual ranch. The rest of my family ordered bbq brisket and it was mostly burnt ends on a soggy bun, a warm and wilted Cobb salad, and an over cooked chicken cordon blue. My daughter ordered sprite, we tried 2 different times and it had an awful after taste. We traded for a root beer and again, still tasted awful.
We were there for a birthday celebration after hearing such great things about the restaurant. Iâm not sure if it was an off night for them, the blazing heat in that small room we were in or maybe itâs just the normal. Either way, not sure Iâll...
Read moreJust happened upon this little Sardine Canyon hidden gem while on a drive looking for some lunch. Sydneyâs is a small town joint with big time food. Based on the building and decor, I was confident we were in for a good meal and good service, I was not expecting to be amazed. We started with a pepperoni pizza as the children were hungry and i figured it would come out quickly, itâs a shame I didnât save much for them. The dough and sauce were both made from scratch and whatever cheese or combination of cheeses they used was spot on. Chef Ted is a jovial, funny guy but isnât playing any games when it comes to the food. After our pizza surprise, we wanted to try everything and none of it disappointed. The coconut shrimp, brisket nachos, and crispy potato spring roll appetizers were great, all fresh and made from scratch, a hand rolled spring roll at a little road side joint! Who does that? After all the apps, I had a club and my wife went with the wedge, both were spot on. We will definitely be going back for more, the onion rings and desserts alone are...
