Neil & Shortyâs BBQ 646 s Main St Princeton IL 61356
Neil & Shortyâs was my forth BBQ joint in four states in two weeks. So I think itâs safe to say that I have some recent comparisons for this review. I did have some reservations about coming here because this place is right in my local area and when I have something bad to say about local places the daggers come out. They did a nice job with the remodel as it not only reflects the cuisine but the local area as well. Nice new furniture, floors and the color scheme as well. I even thought that the service was really good. I ordered a two meat combination plate of brisket and pulled pork with baked beans and corn bread. Brisket, probably the hardest of the BBQ meats to prepare righteously was excellent. Smoke ring, beefy and juicy check, check and check. The pulled pork had a nice flavor especially when paired with that awesome sauce. However it was slightly tepid. I loved loved the baked beans, quite possibly one of the best Iâve ever had. Also Jiffy has a run for their money with their corn bread. Alright two things I donât want to say donât like as not to sound two strong about it butâŚ.Whereâs the Mac & Cheese Iâm at a BBQ joint and get rid of those stupid packaged margarine thingies and give me a little scoop of whipped butter.

Read moreFirst time at this restaurant! Food was good, best bbq I ever had? No, however the server was very prompt, polite and attentive. The food was good, I had the 1/2 lb combo, brisket, and pulled pork with baked beans and spicy cornbread. The beans and cornbread came out hot like out of the overn. The meats were good. Pork was a tad dry, but I nailed it with their spicy bbq sauce, which had a perfect amount of spice to it, not too hot. Brisket was tender as well. Wife had the trio of sliders, which she really enjoyed, and a side of sweet potato waffle fries, which they made fresh, so they were piping hot too. I would go back, the atmosphere was welcoming and the...

Now for the bad part, I just ended up getting chicken strips and sweet potato waffle fries for my son and I to share, they were not the best. Chicken seemed over cooked, the waffle fries were so thin and should have been called sweet potato chips instead.
I will change the rating if I come back and taste the actual bbq, but if the chicken strips werenât good, Iâm...
