This is the best Chinese food in the Suburbs.
I’ve been going here since I was a child and even since I’ve moved out of the area, continue to come back whenever I have the taste for Chinese or Cantonese food, and have referred multiple friends who share my sentiment. The consistency of the food is remarkable; the prep and quality of the dishes hasn’t changed is 40 years and is phenomenal - I haven’t had a disappointing order yet.
The egg rolls are a must order and a can’t miss - they are homemade, larger than normal, and full of flavor. For a pro-tip, order them with a side of the sweet, molasses based(?) house BBQ sauce for dipping.
The combination or “Golden Wok Special” fried rice is perfection, with a generous portions of shrimp, chicken, and pork. Another pro-tip - that same BBQ sauce mentioned above can be mixed in to this as well for a sweet, delightfully addictive experience that you will crave at 2 in the morning at random intervals.
Even the steamed rice that accompanies many of the dishes is consistently moist and fluffy - again, the consistent execution is one of the most impressive things about Golden Wok.
The owner and his wife are always around, and are extremely friendly and grateful every time people come in. The restaurant is adorned with wonderful memories over the history of the restaurant, giving it that heart-warming, family-owned feel.
While they are still carry-out only since COVID, the food is always prepared fresh and will easily still be hot and delightful after a 15-20 minute drive home provided you arrive within the time stated when you order.
Golden Wok is truly a hidden gem until you find it, then it will quickly become a go-to any time you have a craving for those phenomenal eggs rolls and delectable “Special” fried rice… and, of course,...

I stopped in to place a to go order. I ordered the sesame chicken meal, veggie spring rolls and a veggies fried rice. I should have thought twice after going inside as the dining area of the restaurant is closed and it doesn't look or smell very clean. I should have left so that's my fault. I got the order home and my Mom was happy with her veggie fried rice and veggie spring rolls. My sesame "chicken" was not chicken!!!!!! What was it well after calling and speaking to the manager I was told that it's more of a chicken meatball. If I wanted meatballs I would have ordered meatballs. I've never heard of Chinese meatballs in my life. I was told this is the way they've been doing it for 40 years. Well I've been eating Chinese food for a long time and I've never had chicken meatballs covered in sauce. Didn't taste anything like the sesame chicken sauce I have had at other places. It was just bland. No flavor, no spice nothing. The rice that came with the meal was supposed to be fried rice. It was basically white rice that had soy sauce on it. There was no vegetables, no meat, no anything it was literally just white rice with soy sauce on it. The only thing I enjoyed was my egg roll. I couldn't eat any of my meal except the egg roll. I did call and I was given a credit to use next time but other than egg rolls I won't be ordering anything from this restaurant again. If a person is spending 12 dollars on sesame chicken it should be chicken not a chicken meatball. I am now sick to my stomach and still craving Chinese food because I did not get to eat my meal. Oh well ! Good luck if you decide to order from here I guess some people enjoy paying for fake chicken, white soy rice and flavorless sauce. Remember to read the...
Read moreIt is unfortunate that this restaurant has gone down hill. The food has always been good, but on my recent visit, the portions are much smaller for the same cost. I asked about this and when I complained, Management resorted to letting me know I was being ridiculous. It was one of those experiences that leaves you shocked when you feel like a business is stealing from you, when there is no attempt to satisfy and retain the Customer and worst of all, resorts to belittling you. I returned my food because, despite $60 it was not near enough to feed four people. They must not need the business, even though it seems like they are hurting considering the much smaller portions, but I will not go back and will be sure to let everyone I know in the area to do the same. If you're thinking about ordering Chinese food, go with New Hong Kong right down 31st street. They have been there a long time and it's always a pleasant experience. Remember Golden Wok, people are far more likely to remember a bad customer service experience than a good one, and people will follow the advice of a bad review more than a good one. No one wants to spend a lot of money for a little food. More so, people do not want to work with businesses when they know there will be no opportunity to discuss concerns. No one wants to risk losing their money! Thank you for reading! I highly recommend ordering...
