Feels Like An English Pub and Great Food Worthy of 5 stars, but with no low tables inside, I deduct 1 star. This place was an old ice house many years ago and has been transformed into a fun authentic English style pub. We found plenty of free parking in the area close to the pub. We entered a covered patio area with many low chairs and tables, several TV’s and a bar. You pass through a sliding door into the main dining room and game area with more TV’s. No shortage of sports video here. All of the inside seating is hi-top tables and chairs. If you’re short and struggle to get into a hi-top, or dislike having your legs dangle, like my wife, you have to sit out on the patio. There are plenty of fans to move the air and on the evening we dined it was hot – 98 degrees, but the fans kept it bearable. This place is for beer lovers with 34 beers on tap, 150 more from 15+ countries in cans and bottles. I really enjoyed my Irish favorites: Guinness, Smithwick's and Harp on tap. Chelsea was our server and though she has tables inside and out, she never let us sit with empty glasses. She did a great job of explaining favorites and how to get the current beer list on my phone with the QR code scan. The menu had many things that we wanted to try, but we narrowed it down to two. My wife had the Cottage Pie ($14.99). Plenty of seasoned Angus beef, onions, carrots and peas simmered in a flavorful, hearty Guinness gravy, topped with mashed potatoes and cheese and baked to a golden brown. You can substitute chicken in Belgian gravy. My wife shared one forkful with me and it was excellent. I chose the Fish Sandwich with an 8 ounce portion of blackened redfish. It normally comes with a Belgian ale battered fried cod. You can also substitute in grilled redfish. I was pleasantly surprised when they delivered my sandwich. There was a very nice size seasoned fish filet sitting on a toasted roll with lettuce, onion, tomato and dill pickles. The aroma from the fish seasoning was outstanding. The sandwich comes with chips (like steak fries), coleslaw and a homemade tarter sauce. The coleslaw was just OK, nothing memorable. The chips were good when hot, not so good when they cooled off. I did like just a little of the tarter sauce with the fish. I really enjoyed this fish sandwich. After dining, there are free darts and pool tables inside. Darts and cue sticks are available to use at no cost. There is an entire wall of dart boards with chalk scoreboards next to them. What a fun place.
So hey Ice House Pub, put some low tables inside so the short people can get into the AC when it’s hot outside. Thank...
Read moreTo anyone at the IceHouse Pub that is willing to listen….YOU BE THE JUDGE!!!! Walked into the IceHouse Pub tonight with a party of six at 5:30 p.m. CALVIN, your host, informed us it would be hard to get a table for our party since it was Trivia night (which didn’t start until 7) but then points out a table and says, “as soon as they’re done eating, you can have that table”. Even though there were empty tables everywhere. He hands us a beeper and says it should be about 30 min. And would beep us when the table was ready. We thanked him, grabbed some cocktails and waited in the vicinity of the table he had earmarked for us near the dart boards. 35 minutes passed and we noticed the other party cashed out. Calvin and the servers cleared off the table and he walked back to hostess station. So we waited at the table waiting for our beeper to go off. As I walked to hostess station to see what, problem was, I see Calvin approaching us with another group he is going to seat at the table. When we confronted Calvin he claimed he wouldn’t be able to seat us and there weren’t any options!!!! He also went on to say he “talked to the owner” who said there just wasn’t any room for our party of 6. No apology, no options, NOTHING! Why on earth did you even bother to give us a beeper? Why would you have us wait 35 minutes to tell us. Clearly, the 6 of us meant absolutely NOTHING to Calvin. So this is how you want to treat your customers??? Having been in the customer service industry for well over 33 years, I can tell you firsthand you are setting yourself up for failure! There are so many other options in your area…and from the looks of most of your reviews, you all have some work to do. I am more angry at myself for choosing your establishment over all the wonderful restaurants in Punta Gorda. That mistake will NEVER happen again. You can rest assured we will NOT be back….nor will the rest of the people in our party! I’m sure You all don’t care as you clearly demonstrated tonight but I’m sure hoping your social media...
Read moreLet me start out by saying my friends and I had already had food to eat and already had our drinks elsewhere. My friend recommended this place to check out, so that's what we did.
That being said, this is one of the coolest and one of the most unique settings I've ever been in inside of Florida. I haven't seen a historic building made into an establishment like this, in Florida.
I thought it was really nice inside. It's too bad the receipts I got don't list the bartenders name, but he was courteous and served us even though we ordered less than your typical guests. He was engaging and easy to talk to, and gave us suggestions on various beers. We came in on 12/17/17 at 3 pm if that helps.
My friend ordered cheesesticks and ate them all (so I assume good), and I had the Bells Christmas Draft, and it tasted great! A darker beer that tasted like an IPA.
Moreover, they have a pretty extensive beer list on a chalkboard that shows the kegs of beer they have on tap, and they roll out new kegs periodically. It'll be interesting to visit again to see the selection.
Not the best place to go to see the game, as the two TV's at the bar are kind of in odd positions. There is a big screen on the wall directly opposite of the bar, so if you're sat at a table, it shouldn't be too bad.
The atmosphere here is wonderful though. A lot of dart boards, a Foozeball table, and a pool table to keep you entertained.
Thanks for the...
