The only reason I am giving this two stars is because I am trying to be fair and account for the time we went and everything was really good prompting us to go again. That next time ruined how well the time before it went and is why we don't go there anymore. Otherwise, one star would be too many solely based on the last time we went.
But, in all fairness let's start with the good. It had been a very long time since I considered Village Inn as an eatery option in Quincy because the food was always mediocre and the atmosphere was very dated. There was a night we were in Quincy and it was late and we had been running errands all day and just wanted to eat. Since Quincy is basically dead after 10pm we had no options because it was after, or close to, midnight and for some reason even though they should have been Wendy's wasn't open...not even McDonald's either. Then it dawned on me that I thought Village Inn was open 24/7. I can't remember if they were or we were just lucky enough that they were still open for a bit but either way we were able to go there so, albeit reluctantly, we went. We were both surprised at the fact that the food was fantastic, the service was great, and the place seemed clean although dated still. We even got free pie slices to our very pleasant surprise! At some point we found out it was under new management and we figured maybe that was why it was so much better than any other time I remembered going there in the past. This added Village Inn back into our rotation.
Another day comes where we wanted something to eat and we decide to go there again. This time it was the exact opposite. The place had been renovated and looked a lot more up to date and refreshed, but the food and service was HORRIBLE! I ordered a skillet that had country gravy on it. It was brought out and when I moved the eggs to uncover the potatoes I noticed that the gravy looked really thin. I took a few bites and moved things around and saw that it wasn't just a bit thin it was like water. It tasted horrible. I am usually too scared of what might happen if I complain about my food and just deal with the inconvenience but this was so bad it was inedible and I felt like I had no other option. The server was not very apologetic but handled our complaint and took it back to the kitchen. In a short while they came back out with a new one and asked if that looked better. This time the gravy was sitting on the potatoes instead of the potatoes swimming in the gravy so I said yes and thanked them. I took a few bites and realized that what looked like it was fine and had been fixed now had another problem. They went from one extreme to the next. Just looking at it it looked like potato chunks but upon taking a bite it was a harsh lesson that is not at all what it was. This time it was too thick and had huge chunks of what seemed to be flour or some kind of flour like substance. By this time I was done. We spoke to a manager who didn't charge us and we left.
We have never been back and probably never will go back. I am terrified to think about what was done to my food that day and thankful I didn't get too far into it the 2nd time before noticing it was still...
Read moreWorse experience of my life in a restaurant. I ordered two eggs ove easy, when they came out, they where so hard they couldn't be eaten. I told our waitress, who told me that they where having problems with the cook being able to cook right because he was new. She sid she would get me different eggs. While that was a point for her offering to get me new eggs, she lost 5 points by telling me, a customer, that there was a problem. In customer servce, you NEVER admit there's a problem, you just fix it. So she brings me new eggs out. They where raw. I told her this, and told her to just deduct the cost of the eggs off our tab. I was going to leave it at that until Jake, the manager came over. He is the worst example of a manager I have ever encountered. I was explaining the problem, he kep over talking and interrupted me more times than I could count. He kept trying to give excuses about the new cook and the problems where having with him, it's not my problem though, and I don't need to hear their businesses issues, again, you FIX the problem. Than, when he finally shut up long enough to hear why there was a problem, he must not have liked it, he turned his back and walked away. As a manger, you NEVER turn your back and walk away from a customer who is already upset, that just plain was rude. So anyway, they comped my meal. We went up to pay for Johns and walked out. I turned to open the door for John, and Jake the rude as hell manager and another employee where at the counter laughing about it. Another example of POOR customer service, POOR management, POOR ownership, POOR food. IHOP is on their way to Quincy, competition is coming, so you will have to step up Village Inn, or close your doors. I personally will never step back in that place again, and will tell many people the...
Read moreIn all the years I have been going to Village Inn I have to say tonight (Wednesday, 11/30/16) was probably one of the worse experiences I have ever had. Wednesday is ''Free pie" with a purchase of either a drink or a meal (unless this has been changed and I don't think it has). There were 3 of us: Items ordered were 2 meals and 2 drinks. My daughter in law ordered a meal, my son ordered a lemonade, I ordered a meal with coffee. The waitress indicated that my son would have to pay for his pie - for the past several years we have been going there on a regular basis and have had no problems. She then went an talked to the manager. After talking with the manager she brought our pieces of pie and made the inappropriate comment "we normally don't do this" ( with the NASTIEST attitude I have ever seen in a server ANYWHERE in my 60+ years) as if to say we were wrong. We proceeded to tell her what the store offer is and what we ordered. Then the manager came over and asked if there was a problem. We informed him of her inappropriate comment and attitude. And his comment and attitude was "...you got the pies so what's the problem" , reflecting that we were still wrong.
Then as the manager bused our table burned pieces of turkey sausage fell from my plate onto my new sweater and he didn't even bother to apologize. And he knew pieces had fallen because it was seen by everybody and I mentioned it. And also said: "So much for an apologize". Extremely poor customer service compared to all the other visits.
I am hoping this post is seen by the owner, so he is aware of what is happening...
