Bad night out. We have a group of 15-18 people in town for a college Basketball Tournament. We got a great recommendation for this place from the local university people so we were excited to try it. I called 5 days earlier to give a heads up and see if they would do a reservation for a big group. They don't take reservations but said call ahead and give them a heads up. I called saying we were 5-10 min away which is what they requested. They said they were not busy and come on out. We did. When we arrived the host was a young man who was extremely rude with a bad attitude. He said there was a group of 13 ahead of us with 1 woman sitting there and there whole group ended up bein 3-4 people. He also said he wouldn't sit a group without everyone there. Are whole group was waiting outside so we were courteous of their other customers and didn't crowd the entrance. We understood not jumping the line which he accused us of trying to do. All we asked is a simple question of how long they estimated the wait. They wouldn't answer and again was very rude. After he finally agreed to sit us the wait was horrible. First it took over 15 min to get drinks but we are a big group and it is Saturday night at prime dinner time. So slow service is understandable and I was going to let it slide. The service got worse. We couldn't get napkins without asking 3 times, it took me 4 times to ask for water, until the manager helped take orders nothing was getting done. It took 45 min to receive the food. 5 staff walked by when asked nice for something like napkins without saying a word or even acknowledging anyone from our group they ignored the request. I ordered a double order of steak fajitas got chicken because the manager misheard my order. I like chicken so I was going to let it slide. The final straw was that one of my players got a fly in his cake. That grossed everyone out. When speaking with the manager he listened but said our head coach need calm down. This is after one of our young men just ate something with a bug and the staff was rude beyond measure. Our coach was rightfully upset. He barely raised his voice and was not causing a schene. The food was fairly good until the bug. We are spoiled with great Mexican food in Chicago so to have it at all compare is kinda of a compliment. Stuff happens. If they were nice to us, apologized for their errors, and comp some of the food it would have gone along way and I probably would not give a bad review. The manager did comp some of the bill (although a bug should have been the whole food since it is a safety and health issue) and we paid the rest with no tip because the service is some of the worse I ever experienced. I hope the owner or GM sees this and corrects the staff as we were probably the best thing for business to walk in all week if not longer. We did 1 bill that would have been $300-400 and I tip extremely well on big parties. I normally start my tip at 30% minimum with a group that size and we were paying cash. We gave advance notice so the staff was preparred. This is a dream come true. We do this tournament every year and always do a big dinner out. Our usual place closed so we were looking for a new one. It won't be here. They were ridiculously bad attitudes and snarky from the first second until they snarkily said have a nice day trying to start an argument on the way...
Read moreOver the top fake wannabe Mexican atmosphere. Service was slower than slow. I could've just drove south of the border in the time it took to get out "food" that was brought out and pretty much down on the table by a rude waitress that didn't even make an effort to set the correct order in front of the person who ordered it. Even when she KNEW that all 4 dinners were in front of the wrong person she just stood there smirking at us as we rearranged the orders ourselves. After we did that I totally regretted it because the food really couldn't have been any worse unless it was cold and hard but I guess that's the only thing they did right. Served the food nice and hot. Totally...
Read moreI'm a Latina from California and was in town visiting family, when my nephew suggested going to El Rancherito for lunch and gotta say I ordered one of the best Chilaquiles I ever eaten. It was quite a bit of food at a very reasonable price. I had to get a to go box because I couldn't finish my plate. My nephew ordered a wet burrito with queso blanco and his friend ordered a chicken salad with pollo in a hard shell. I loved the atmosphere, the colorful decor and the black & white photos of Mexican celebrities like the famous comedian "Cantiflas". I will be back hopefully again & again....
