No doubt, I expect better from a restaurant charging premium prices. - I have to say, I was excited to go to the Wiregrass Bistro yesterday evening. 5/11/2022 - 8:00 pm. We were a party of three. I had been there before when it was under different ownership and had stopped going because it was seriously bad. After taking a look at the menu online we decided to give it another chance. The menu was creative and interesting. As avid travelers and gourmands, all of us... we have experienced some of the best Michelin Star restaurants in the world. We were delighted to try what we hoped would be a little gem in humble Quitman, Georgia. We arrived and the ambiance was nice. Nice lighting, funky modern art... cozy. Linen tablecloths, and napkins, beautiful roses on the table. I was encouraged and excited. Ready to be impressed and in many ways I was. We ordered appetizers; deviled eggs, onion rings, and pork belly. All were perfectly divine. Well prepared and presented. Then the entrees. We had ordered the rib eye, the filet and a pasta dish. OMG! What happened? What had started as a delightful gastronomic experience took a sharp nose dive. The $38.00 ribeye was poor quality and was supposed to be medium rare. It was served cold and almost raw and so over spiced with some strange flavor it turned my stomach. Thyme maybe, and way too much of it. The side of asparagus was a washed out, brownish, limp, overcooked mess. The mashed potatoes were subpar. The Drunken Mushrooms made me gag. No kidding... Who the F cooked them? They were apalling. The entire presentation was disappointing. My friend had ordered the filet mignon. He got a hunk of gray, poor quality meat and the presentation was the same... pitiful and disappointing. My other friend ordered a pasta dish which was delicious. The Caesar Salad was amazing and done in the classic style. Everything a Caesar should be, perfection. We ordered the creme brulee for dessert. I can honestly say, I didn't know one could screw up a creme brullee this bad. The egg custard was awful and the crust was not a crust at all but a soft mess. No cracking the crust on this poorly made imposter of the classic dessert. The coffee was weak and poorly made. I have to think that there is real talent in that kitchen, but while some of the staff are doing a great job, the others are missing the mark and don't care what they are sending out. The entire experience was such a dichotemy of delight, disgust and disapointment. The management needs to get a handle on who is doing the cooking and how it is being done. It is definitely a restaurant of extremes. Extremely good and extremely bad. The steaks are something you might expect from Golden Corral or some other mediocre chain. That they have the nerve to charge so much for low grade, poorly cooked steaks is shocking. The person cooking them does not know what they are doing, period... Our bill was $200.00 which included 4 gin and tonics. No doubt, I expect better from a restaurant charging premium prices. The owner needs to take a hard look at what is leaving the kitchen. I know it's difficult to ensure every dish is prepared and presented correctly, but the steaks were seriously the worst I have ever had. This restaurant needs some quality control. They should rename it, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. As an aside, we arrived at 8:00pm. They close at 9:00pm. The tone from the waitress was hurried. Not welcoming or friendly. Toward the end of our meal when we ordered dessert she had her jacket over her arm as she was serving us and reminded us again they closed at 9:00. She had one foot out the door and let us know we were cramping her style. I've walked into hundreds of restaurants in my life an hour before closing, but have never been treated as if they couldn't wait to get rid of me. No doubt, good old fashioned Southern hospitality heads South on a Wednesday night in...
Read moreI want to give Wiregrass 5 stars, I just can't. Not yet anyway. I plan to come back and try something else. I had the Southern Deviled Eggs and Premium Blackend Ribeye. The deviled eggs were delicious and to die for. The ribeye not so much it was a very fatty, gristly cut especially for the price. What really set the steak off and made me like it was some type of garlic herb butter. I had asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes as sides. I am planning to come back and try a different meal, and I believe it will have different results. As for the atmosphere of Wiregrass Southern Bistro, it is upscale casual. The 1920s building has enormously high ceilings, and brick walls decorated with art (that's for sale) are astounding. Your eyes should immediately be drawn to the gorgeous, well thought-out, fully stocked bar. While you're sitting and taking in the view, you may even notice the second loft like floor. As you are taking in the sights of this restaurant, make sure to take notice of the real flora arrangement on your table along with many other very small details of this stunning restaurant. They have taken this historic building and made it their own while still preserving its uniqueness. I highly recommend you stop off for a bite to eat. I know I'll be back, and I look forward to changing my rating...
Read moreDecided to stop in for lunch. No one in there. Should have been our first clue. No one came out to greet us, so I walked into the back where I heard voices. A guy said his daughter would be us shortly, which she finally did come take our order. I ordered chicken salad on a brioche bun, with potato salad. Hubby ordered a turkey, bacon sandwich, on brioche bun, with pasta salad. We ordered each as a box and it included your drink and a treat. When our order came, they had my chicken salad on a croissant, and my husband's on white bread. I decided the croissant was okay, and told them hubby wanted brioche, and was told they could change it quickly, as the buns "were right by the door." He decided to just keep the white bread. His pasta salad was dry and tasteless. The sandwich not much better. My chicken salad was made with thigh meat and tasted awful, and wasn't very cold. I did not eat it all. I just couldn't. The potato salad was okay. We had to ask for the check and never offered our treat. At that point, I didn't even want it. I don't complain about places very often, but this lunch deserves a bad review. Not somewhere we will go again. The building is very...
