Not sure what happened with this restaurant, but it has fallen off in a major way. The condition of this building is just not suitable to be selling anyone food from. I will not be returning to get anything from there until they do a major makeover. The last time I went in, I really took notice at how bad the condition of this building was, mold all over the ceiling and the lamps that's hanging directly over the food, seemed like certain parts of the ceiling was about to fall down, I'd hate for anyone to be standing there when it finally decides to give.
Some of the staff that's serving the food is so very unpleasant the way the ask you what would you like make you feel like they are tired of you or you're getting on their nerves, like you've done something to them by coming in to get something to eat😟😔. Just rude in my opinion!
The cashier that you pay as you're leaving out was the only positive part about the last couple of visits there!
As I was leaving out I seen 2 roaches and that just solidified my feelings of not coming back!!!!
I was going to get plates for my grandma, but I can remember times when my daughter who is now 20 was a baby and we'd go here after church with family and we'd all have Sunday dinner or times that I'd go with both my grandparents just to have something to eat when my grandfather was living, and right before my father passed 2 years ago he loved to occasionally stop in but nowwwwwwww, this place has run its course. It's in need of serious remodeling/ cleaning/ new staff, that appreciates being there.
This place has lost its soul,...
Read moreI have such nostalgia for K&W that every time I head back down south I have to have it. Similar southern fare in NYC is four times the price and a quarter as good. This is the one local relic I hope newcomers to the Triangle will 'discover', so that it sticks around!
Ever since the K&W locations in Chapel Hill (the absolute best in NC) and Cameron Village closed, this is the location I go to. It's tucked away beside a shuttered shopping mall--but there's a reason it's open, when nothing else is. The after-church old folks crowd loves this homey, no-frills budget food chain, and so do I. Go on a Sunday afternoon to enjoy the crowd and people-watch, or on a weekday if you prefer quiet.
A lot of items' quality may depend on the day and the batch--but that's why you use your eyes when you slide your tray down the line. Did a new tray of broccoli just arrive, fresh and steaming? Get that with the cheese sauce. I especially recommend the mac & cheese, the turkey with stuffing, the roast beef, and the coconut pies. Whatever they have fried--okra, squash, mushrooms--get that, too. Love the dinner rolls, especially if you get one when they're hot from the oven, remember when they were 10c?
When you're done, take your ticket to the exit counter and pay.
Be sure to bring some cash to leave on the table as a tip for...
Read moreTook a min to get through the line and sit down because they kept letting 2 ladies keep going back and forth in line to order more take out after be at the check register. They held the line up for almost 10min. The people don't seem to be happy to work there.... except the person at the paying register otw out...he was great! The waiter was good this time but time before he had a uncomfortable interaction with him. When he came over to ask if "everything good/ok? Do we need anything?" husband told him about how cold the food was (all our food), he just stared at him for a min and then finally said "What do you want me to do about it? What do you want me to do about it sir". My husband just replied, ,,"nothing, we are good, thank you anyways." Waiter said "ok,." & walked away. Our food tasted like the place smelled...which was like old grease and something else. There was barely anything left for the food that we wanted (not close to closing time),, ⅚ went there for. What we did get had been sitting out and you could taste that it was made a while ago because it tasted like the whole place smelt%. Soft rolls were hard, etc, Spaghetti f old grease or something. Rocky mounts is a tad bit better but Goldsboros WAS the best! I wish Goldsboro never closed! They were always...
