While the seafood is fresh and procured from local watermen, your opposition to the new catch limits for flounder, among other species, is incredibly short sighted and quite disappointing. We've been loyal customers of yours and are committed to supporting our natural resources and our watermen. We will be reevaluating our decision to support your business in the future given your vocal opposition to necessary and sensible resource management, which is critical if we hope for our children and future generations to have the opportunity to enjoy the resources we're so fortunate to have.
Update: We decided to give Locals another shot, notwithstanding their opposition to sensible catch limits, as we are dedicated to supporting local watermen (gender neutral). I ordered a bag of 100 little neck clams last weekend. When I picked them up I noticed two were broken despite the employee’s proclamation that “these are beautiful clams.” I asked about the dig date, which they eventually told me was a full 10 days(!) prior to them being sold to me. I was quite hesitant to take the clams, as 10 days is really too long for them to be sitting out on ice. But I had preordered them and felt obliged to buy them, so I did so. That was a mistake. Once I got home and started to rinse them off I found that 8 clams were broken or already open (dead). Another 2 clams did not open when I cooked them that night, indicating they had died prior to cooking. That makes a full 10% of the bag lost due to spoilage. If you’re looking for fresh, good quality seafood -...
Read moreWhen getting your "FRESH" fish here, there is no going wrong. Every clam that I have purchased over the past two years since I have moved here have all opened when steamed. You will not regret when they open, and give up the delicious goodness with the clam and not to mention the broth which is saved, frozen and when needed for pasta, can't beat it because it already has the garlic, wine, & onion. A great dinner ready once the broth is thawed & heated and cheaper than the grocery store!
Any other fish that I have purchased ie....shrimp, tile fish, flounder.....you will never purchase from your local grocery store again. I will always support our local fishermen. They are out there daily to put food onto our tables and only put the best of the best. You will not go wrong with your...
Read moreI love raw oysters and never passed up an opportunity to have a dozen or two shucked for me, often at the now-closed Locals in the Transfer Co. Food Hall. When the pandemic hit and my autoimmune disorder prevented me from enjoying eating in restaurants, I either had to learn to shuck my own or go without. Locals has remained my go-to for fresh oysters raised on the NC coast. I place my order online and pick up at the State Farmers Market. The Locals team are very knowledgeable about oysters in general and NC farmed oysters in particular when it come to briny-buttery balance, what variety are best raw, and how splintery the shells are when shucking. I really appreciate their expertise; making it possible for me to still...
