I’ve been a customer of Michael’s for the past 4 years. My family and I love their product. I tell friends and colleagues about this place all the time. Every time I’ve gone in there, I’ve been treated with respect, until last week. I went to Michael’s one morning and ordered a number of sandwiches and other products for family visiting from out of town. I spent $50. I also ordered some juice boxes for my kids, which I paid for upfront, and told the young man who was taking my order that I’d wait for my order to be done before walking to the back of the restaurant to get the juice boxes. The young man, by the way, was an absolute professional. Anyway, once he let me know that my order was ready, I headed towards the back of the restaurant and out of nowhere a blond lady, who I have seen before, but not interacted with, came super fast from behind the kitchen, and started talking to me about my kid. She gave off a really odd and weird vibe, but I engaged her. It wasn’t until we got to the refrigerator that I put 2 and 2 together and realized that the blond woman was racially profiling me. As I opened the refrigerator door to get the juice boxes, she immediately stopped talking, and stood within arms reach of me and watched every single move that I made. It was so uncomfortable - you could cut the tension with a knife. Once she saw that I only retrieved the two juice boxes that I paid for, she abruptly left, said goodbye, and returned to behind the kitchen. I just spent $50 there. I’m not going to steal two juice boxes from you. Your black patrons just want to enjoy your food as much as everyone else. This has never happened to me throughout the 4 years that I’ve been patronizing this business. This is how you lose customers and impact the bottom line. Do...
Read moreIn a sort of non-descript plaza in a kind of non-descript part of Raleigh is this absolute gem of a food destination. A bakery and eatery that focuses on English muffins: how crazy - and absolutely wonderful at the same time. Typically you run into EMs in the US either in plastic-bagged, cardboard-boated packages on somewhat overlooked grocery shelf space or on the breakfast menu of that corporate leviathan "M" place. Put those images away. What you'll experience at Michael's is fantastically different. I am so glad whomever is behind this place (presumably Michael...lol) is sharing their passion for the somewhat esoteric baked good with the rest of us. The EMs at Michael's are astonishingly good. They are pillow-y, tasty, sublime, and the perfect backbone for their "SEC" sausage, egg, and cheese EM sandwich (they have many other varieties, also). As someone who's had a lifelong, somewhat guilty and ashamed, taste for the same sandwich from the colossus drive-through place, I am so, so glad to be able to get an exceptional version made with obvious care, quality ingredients, and passion by a Raleigh business. I will go back again and again, and I am presently restraining breaking into the extra muffins I brought home meant for the rest of the week. Oh, and the people are great: the team behind the counter greeted every single person who walked through the door (there were many) while I was waiting for my order with a genuine, outgoing, warm...
Read moreWe stopped in here while on vacation after reading lots of positive reviews. Sadly, that was not our experience. This is a pretty small location, just a few tables. We stopped by on Sunday morning about 10:30. There was only one other couple in at the time but by the time we left, it was getting busier. I ordered a sausage, egg, and cheese muffin and my husband a sausage muffin. We also ordered a side of hashbrowns. All three came out piping hot. I mean so hot it took a good 5 minutes to cool down enough to take a bite. While the taste was ok, all of the items seemed to have been cooked in straight oil. The muffins were saturated with grease. I mean saturated to the point of being spongy. The potatoes were served in about 1/4" of oil. We tried to scoop them out onto a napkin to help soak up some of the excess but that didn't work and we ended up leaving half uneaten. I had planned on purchasing a bag of muffins to take home but by the time we were done, I had no interested. I have had better sandwiches at McDonalds.
Maybe it was an off day for the grill cook but as our only experience here, I can't say that I'd want to try it again next time we're...
