My family had an absolute blast! It was our first experience at a conveyor belt sushi restaurant and it did not disappoint. I'm sort of a sushi snob, and this is by no means top quality sushi, but cheap tasty sushi is also a guilty pleasure of mine and the selection I tried was pretty good. It helps that not only do they have a wide selection but the portions per plate are very small so at no time did I feel the need to force down something I didn't enjoy. If I didn't love a dish, no problem, just two bites and I'm on to trying the next dish. But to be honest, I did enjoy most everything I tried. Without caring about eating sushi properly, I skipped the wasabi/soy sauce and simply dunked most of the rolls into some Yum yum sauce and went to town! I like the fact that they included healthy items like edamame, seaweed salad, and cucumbers along with a few yummy desserts like the Japanese cheesecake. I loved the Rockin Roll with mango and eel. I would never have thought fried bananas would work in sushi, but the Crazy Monkey Roll was surprisingly yummy.
We sat at the bar so my kids had their own window access to the conveyor belt and they were loving it. Each group of dishes were lead by a sign describing the dish so there was no mystery. My kids were able to read the signs and choose everything they wanted without our assistance, allowing my wife and I to fully enjoy the experience without interruption.
So there's a plethora of stuff to try on the conveyor belt, the touchscreen had other items like kids items and hibachi, there was plenty of bottomless drinks to choose from, and a bunch of different sauces. All the things we wanted with no unnecessary frills. For only $18/adult and $12/kid this place is an amazing bargain!
The hostess, Ayla, was very nice and helpful. Because it was our first time she kindly gave us a nice tour of what they had to offer, explained the conveyor belt etiquette, and showed us how to use the touch screen for the other menu items. She even continued to check on us to ensure we were doing ok throughout the evening. ...
Read moreWhen you hear from your friends that they went to this really cool place in Japan where sushi was served on a conveyor belt, you probably think that could never happen here. Yet here it is conveyor belt sushi all you can eat.
The experience:
The unfortunate news is it's 13.99 dollars per person. They seat you with a number and an ipad like tablet to order things like chicken wings and tempura dishes. Right below the iPad or above it is the conveyor belt itself. It goes moderate speed. Each roll has a tag before it starts 5+ plates of it scrolling by you to take. Yum! The order is sushi, nigiri, other, then, desert. You can also scroll on the iPad to see what sushi options there are. There is dessert that can be ordered on the iPad. Finally you can pay through the iPad and leave whenever.
Food:
If I were to just rate the food alone I would rate it. a 4.5. The sushi itself is good. Nothing outstanding and nothing too notable. Well the only thing notable for me would be the crab roll, which is basically the only thing I like is crab. I also ordered shrimp tempura and chicken wings. Personally I think the chicken wings were underwhelming. The fry was good but the wings themselves weren't. They were small and barely had any meat on them. Due to the machine being out of order I couldn't get miso soup. In the past when I did go here many moons ago the soup wasn't anything to write home about. Tempura was the same, cooked well but small dish. The desert was ok but I tried something with coconut in it so I was bound to not like it in the first place so I'm just going to write that one off the review.
All in all: If you really want to go to conveyor belt sushi then sure definitely go. You're not going to have a terrible time that's for sure. It's definitely a great idea for groups of people. Definitely a great place to bring kids if you want them to try. Sushi or just get them to try basic Japanese dining. There are three locations, one in Raleigh, one in Durham and one in Charlotte. The conveyor belt style buffet is an absolute thrill! There's something undeniably fun about watching delectable dishes glide past your table, just waiting to be plucked up and enjoyed. It's like a culinary adventure unfolding before your eyes! And the added element of competition makes it even more entertaining. We've turned plate-clearing into a friendly competition, and I must boast that I clinched victory during our last visit with an impressive 22 plates!
The variety of sushi available is truly impressive. Whether you're a traditionalist who loves classic rolls or an adventurous eater eager to try something new, Rockin' Rolls Sushi has you covered. But it's not just about sushi—the additional offerings like salads, sides, and desserts ensure that there's something to please every palate at the table.
I also appreciate the convenience of the iPad ordering system for items not on the conveyor belt. Being able to customize our meal with appetizers, kids' meal items, and even hibachi-style dishes adds an extra layer of satisfaction to the dining experience. The fact that these items are cooked to order ensures that everything arrives fresh and flavorful.
