Truly could not have been worse…We came in at 12:30pm on the day of their reopening, suffice it to say they were not prepared. The host was super friendly and sat us right away. Things took a turn once we were seated. Maybe our server was having a bad day, but it was a rough brunch. We started off ordering drinks. Someone in our party tried ordering a coffee cocktail, and our server stated, “we have no drip coffee available right now”. I chimed in to ask if they have espresso, and if so, they could make an americano in place of the drip coffee. I think this confused the server, but she went on to say they have no coffee at all. We also tried to order the beignets, because there is a sign out front advertising they have them. She told us that “they were only serving what was on the menu”, therefore we could not order them… After taking our drink & appetizer orders, we looked around and saw multiple tables and even employees drinking coffee…? Our mimosa flights came, and we could not even read the flight carrier to tell which mimosa was which. Not to mention, the garnishes were nasty. Like, moldy raspberry and days old fruit slice nasty. Our French toast sticks appetizer was brought out and it was just awful. Very few French toast sticks but far too much dipping sauce. Also, there was literal green onion cooked into them, presumably from a messy cooktop. Our crepes finally came, and mine was ice cold. It genuinely felt like it was fresh out of the refrigerator. We saw in the open concept kitchen that the crepes are made in advance and stacked in a huge pile in open air, so I assume this is why it the dish was so cold. The only good thing I have to comment about the food is that some of the crepes were plated nicely (even though they resemble nothing of French crepes). I am pretty sure the server was aware of our displeasure. However on multiple occasions after stopping by our table, she would walk away shaking her head and would go off in the corner to talk inappropriately with her coworker about how much she did not want to be there. When we were ready for the checks, she used a handheld device to take the payment. I think this method is great, however she did not give any of us the chance to look at the bill prior to paying. I asked and attempted to look at the item breakdown, but she stated my total and went to the next screen. When she turned the device around for us to tip, the tipping options start at 22%…she stood there watching us go through the whole process. It was uncomfortable, having all of us felt like we had to tip more than we thought was deserved, because of the weird intimidation. Not surprisingly, our meals were way overpriced for the quality they lacked. Despite our displeasure with the food and the service, our table was relatively polite and easygoing, always saying please and thank you. As someone who has spent extensive time in the service industry, her behavior was not appreciated and was really disrespectful, bad day or not. You treat your customers respectfully regardless of what issues arise. We really wanted to see past some of the issues, but there were too many to not...
Read moreWe chose to visit Lafayette Village because it popped up on my FB feed. It looks so cute. It was a Monday though and a few places were closed.
We chose Simply Crepes to complete the French theme visit. We were seated right away. The physical atmosphere was cute, but we were seated at a very small table, next to the kitchen, which was open to the eating area. The cook looked like he was barely keeping up, with no smiles, not even chit-chat with the servers.
The waiter was cordial, and helpful with the menu.
When our food came, I was astonished with the size of my crepe! It looked more like a huge burrito in California, than a crepe which connotes elegance; but hey, more to enjoy.
The first few bites were really delicious. I was starving. It was stuffed with 2.5 inches of greens, making it harder to get a bite of everything in each bite. I asked for the bacon in the dish to be crisp, it was burned. There is a difference. The avocado was almost as hard as an apple, and barely existent, just enough to say it was there. I ordered lemonade. I always look forward to lemonade in the summer. It tasted like Countytime powder lemonade.
My friend ordered an ice latte. She had to purchase an additional shot to make it taste like coffee, because he didn’t seem to want to fix her complaint. She asked another server who was pouring coffee, right next to us, if she could have a bit in her drink, he just abruptly referred her to our waiter and left. Then she was charged $4 extra to make her drink taste better. She did liked her dish, however.
All and all, I feel generous with this review. I have been to simple diners that were a better experience in food and service. None of the staff seemed like they were happy to be there; they did not exhibit much friendliness of a good server team.
Then to add insult to injury, after we ate, we both visited the ladies room. There was no soap in the dispenser. This factor always grosses me out when staff (generally) use the same restroom. Pretty sure that’s some kind of health code violation.
Maybe it was all designed to make me feel as if we were Americans in Paris, where they don’t really want you to be there; and they don’t really care to serve you.
We drove from Winston-Salem to visit this cute shopping center. Perhaps another time it would have been better. Mondays,...
Read moreCrepes were good, however, service definitely needs more work. My boyfriend and I have been here 3 times, all visits having some subpar service.
First visit, came in December for the red envelopes they were giving out. We ordered first, took 20-30 minutes for 2 crepes when it was not busy. While we were waiting to pay, we saw a different server give his table an envelope, but we had to ask for one, our server didnt seem like she wanted to give to us.
Second visit, we came in January as the envelopes had to be opened during that month. We ordered again this visit and still had to wait a long time for our crepes. After we finished, we opened the envelope with the server present and it was a free crepe. He said we could save if we’d like until March 3rd when it said was good until, so i suggested to save it since valentines was coming up the next month.
Third visit, a week after valentines, we had ordered 2 appetizers, waited 20 minutes….the potatoes were disappointing, like 8-10 small cubes for $8. When we were done, our waiter came and said our crepe was on the way. Waited an additional 20-30 minutes for our 1 crepe- peanut butter brownie crepe- it was good but not worth the wait. Other people who came after us got their orders first, a table having an appetizer, drink flight, and burgers. We had finished and our server was preoccupied eating in the back corner. I dont mind if people eat but he never checked on us or gave refills on water. He finally came and we had given him the coupon and he just took it without a word, asked a person in the kitchen area, came back and said we couldnt use it because it needed to be signed…we were never told about this. It was just disappointing because i suggested it after seeing an instagram blogger i follow...
