gave this a 5 star review a while ago 'cause this used to be the most consistently good Taco Bell near NC State. i ordered from it once a week for years and have seen the quality degrade from consistently good to regularly bad. once in a while you'll get a good experience, and then five other times you'll get unfilled burritos, bad substitutions, and really poorly made orders and boxes. we went here and tried to order vegan/vegetarian. one of us has a dairy allergy. four times in a row, none of the orders came out the way they were supposed to; steak instead of beans on the nacho fries, soggy crunchwraps with nacho cheese instead of tomatoes. we order on the app, too, so there isn't any lost-in-translation through the drive-thru speaker. the workers here are not the problem. THE WORKERS ARE NOT THE PROBLEM. they do their jobs, they are polite, they laugh with the customers, they put the food together best they can with what they got. management is the issue. when they've got good managers on staff, this place is as good as it used to be. this taco bell needs better management, or to reduce their operating hours and personnel to a reasonable point. picture attached is a comparison of the crunchwrap from the Hillsborough St. Taco Bell and the Western Taco Bell. the one more filled and sturdy is from Hillsborough street. go there; you will waste less time than in Western's drive thru if you just place an order on the app, and the food is consistently good...
Read moreHands down the best taco bell. I went in to ask for a retired item that they use to serve and I use to make when I worked there when I was younger. The greatest food item that ever existed on their menu: the potato loaded griller 🤤. Packed with square potatoe bites, nacho cheese sauce and sour cream, grilled hot and BAM! The greatest thing to greet your taste buds. Such simplicity makes for the most incredible stoner snack you could ask for.
Well when I tell you I went in there and at first they messed up the order, turns out the person who made it was very young. But man when I went in to get fix, out stepped from the shadows but an actual veteran taco bell employee. Speaking Spanish and I English we somehow came to a deep understanding of what I was actually looking for as far as the custom burrito I wanted.
Quickly she went back into the kitchen whipped up my loaded griller and started a new with fresh everything. Then she came back and gave me the back. I told her thank you and was giddy with glee as I began digging deep into my bag. My hands retracted to with haste, not from disgust but from shock. As I dug back in that's when I realized the weight of the bag shifted a little while sitting warm in my lap. I dug back into the bag and pulled out a 2nd potato loaded griller. Truly what dreams are made of, I gobbled the soul out of both of them. I will forever be thankful to that lady...
Read moreI haven't been to this location in a long time and decided to go since I refuse to go back to the one on Glenwood. I ordered ahead and when I went inside to pickup I ended up waiting for more than 15 minutes past the time I was told on the website. It's clear that the employees are overworked and I'm not convinced the touchscreen method of ordering is more efficient than the old fashioned way of actual cashiers there to talk to the customer. It's more troublesome to get the attention of the employees because they're doing 15 other things and having to run the drive thru, which in turn is hard for them to correct any mistakes that were made because they're overworked. Multiple people (including myself) had to come up to let them know the order was wrong. They forgot a part of my order and I had to wait even more time to get their attention and explain and by that time the food was cold. They fixed the problem quickly and were very nice about it, but it still put a damper on the night.
There's obviously too much going on for the employees to handle everything. They're trying, but I feel like they have the short end of the stick. Maybe just having limited slots for online orders would help? I would have gone to a different location if the orders were high at that location at that time. Having a dedicated cashier would also help a lot...
