I have to say that I’m very very picky when it comes to Colombian food, and it’s well known that NC that’s not have a very large options to choose from, but for my surprise I went last night and I saw the owners who also started “La Castellana” bakery and now they moved to this place. I have to say, right when they opened the arepa bar I did not liked the food but a month ago, I gave them a second try and I was impressed by the good taste of their food. Also I’m impressed of the bad reviews from people and all I have to say it’s that if you’re complaining for the price of the food, just remember that EVERYTHING RIGHT NOW ITS HELLA EXPENSIVE, so please think twice before complaining for that, this family are picking up a business and they’re doing the best they can. Everyone should give them a try, because it has the best street and traditional food and bakery variety that you’re going to find in NC!!
All this being said, I have to give a big THANK YOU to Vilma, Arlex and their daughters for the hospitality and warmth that always provided me, my family and friends! I hope this new adventure actually picks up and the...
Read moreFinally a good colombian joint to enjoy in Raleigh. My husband and I are happy we gave The Arepa Bar a try! It is a small restaurant with a couple of tables inside and outside, latin music playing in the background and the food is delicious, full of flavor, decent prices, good portions and excellent service! Don Arlex - Im hoping Im not butchering his name - was so attentive and gave us good ideas on what to order without being pushy but actually genuine. We ordered: The Arepa sampler which is 4 mini arepas with different toppins and beef and chicken empanadas as appetizers which was a good way to start our dinner. Then we got our main dishes: my hubby ordered the Desmechada Arepa and I got the Bandeja Paisa. My husband said the beef in the arepa was really juicy and full of flavour and the Bandeja Paisa was delicious!! The beans were as close as the ones we get back home in Colombia! Sooo good! Very generous portions we had left over to bring back home! Ohh and they have a little bakery as well: Miloja and buñuelos made their way home too ;) We definitely are coming back to try more of their...
Read moreI looked them up online and after browsing decided to try a bowl. It said 8.99 create your own so I was eager to try the ceviche. Upon arrival they tell me there is no ceviche which was not a problem. I proceed to order and ask what they do have. Lady very unhappily said the same as the arepas like I've been here before. I'm like ok..guess we'll go with chicken who doesn't have chicken right. Then I wanted to try the spicy avocado sauce which she says they are out of. I ask for another which they are out of. Then one more different sauce which they don't have either. I ask myself then what are you selling here?? She then charges me 17 dollars which is where I drew the line. I came to try this place because of something you have online and you have not updated your website and on top of that don't even have any variety of products you are advertising?? I paid and ate and won't be coming back and don't recommend this place. I think I would have gotten more full of an arepa then the small kids bowl of food they gave me and charges me 15$ because she dropped the price after I complained. Go at...
