Dalu Hawaiian BBQ, I’ve been waiting for you!❤️
I walked in around opening (10am) to get some lunch. I’m a fan of “fast-food” Hawaiian bbq and I was very interested to give this joint a try. As I walked in, I noticed that it wasn’t busy, but I’m not surprised seeing that they just opened up and it was 10 AM in the morning. The girl (and I say girl because is very young and beautiful, I’d have to guess in her early 20’s) is very polite, professional, friendly, and accommodating. She greeted me as I walk in through the doors. Beautiful smile… sorry…. ANYWAY, I looked at the menu to look for an item that I would usually get at Ono Hawaiian bbq (there are no Ono’s in San Diego county that I know of, Google maps says so) so I found something which I thought was equivalent to my favorite: Teriyaki Beef Plate (see pics). As I was waiting for my order I took some pics of the dinning area (beautiful girl did not want to be in the photos and I respected that). Very roomy, very accommodating and very “sport-bar” vibe chill. They have a bar! Not a full-blown bar but if I wanted a beer I could order one or a pitcher! I like this! No beer today, though. I’m on a lunch break and don’t dnd. They do have some Spirits and wine to choose from, maybe a mixed drink as well. I appreciate their bar. I didn’t have to wait more than 5 mins for my order. The beautiful girl ask if I would like teriyaki sauce or Sriracha. I’m a Sriracha guy so I asked for that and some chopsticks because that’s how I roll. She added a fork, napkins and handed me my order and said with that beautiful smile (I can’t help it, she’s beautiful) “thank you very much”. I smiled back and said “thank you!”. I left, drove away & I parked my vehicle and opened the clamshell the order came in. I am pleasantly surprised at what I see! The beef, rice, and macaroni salad look wonderful! I cannot wait to dive into this! The beef was still hot and very savory. The rice, firm and not soggy. The macaroni salad was creamy and still very cold. I have had other Hawaiian barbecue in San Diego area, but nothing like this. This is GOOD!!! so if you’re reading this, give Dalu a try. This place needs to stay in business because to me, they are THAT good. Definitely better than the competition down here. I took a a few of pictures to give a better description of what I saw along with the to-go menu. I will be returning to Dalu Hawaiian BBQ with my family as well as for Friday lunch a few times a month. To me, it’s that good and worth the price. I will definitely have to try the...
Read moreIt was my first time today, I was really excited for this place, my husband and I went on his lunch, got the chicken katsu and a drink, first couple bites were fine, my husband was not a bit fan on how the macaroni salad tasted, L&L's is better for sure. The rice was decent, but on my 3rd bite of the chicken, I felt something abnormal in my mouth, tried to remove it but it was too late, looked at the fork and there was a hair in the chicken, I feel sick to my stomach because I know I ate a piece of that hair. The cashier was so nice, the atmosphere was so chill, but I will never get over that hair in my mouth. I am embarrassed and disgusted, unfortunately will not recommend this place and will advise people to eat with caution if you decide to come here. L&L never had this issue. I wish I took a picture but I got out of there so quick filled with disgust. They did refund my money which I appreciated, I would have disputed the charges either way. Horrible eating experience. Zero stars if I could...
Read moreSecond time here. Won’t even make a review for my first visit… Born and raised in Hawaii… saw they had “shaved ice” on the menu… as expected it’s like Kona ice… or an icee… fine.
My gripe is with the waitress that seem to be clocking back in from a break on Sunday 7/13. Only her was in the front- the nice boy that took our order was in the back… assuming restocking.
So I asked her for just a napkin. She proceeded to turn around facing the kitchen, ring the “help bell” NEXT to the napkins… doesn’t even say anything to mean. The boy come running from the back, I told him I’m so sorry, all I needed was a napkin.
He gives me a napkin kindly and she walked away.
Word of advice. If you’re Going to make money off of “Hawaiian food” then train your workers on the aloha spirit as well.
Side note- Uku is headlice and can mean a lot in certain context… don’t call your kids plates “uku plates” it’s wrong in...
