Today I visited Tuckaway Tavern & Butchery with my family who traveled an hour and a half for the BOGO lobster rolls. I have personally been going there for over 10 years and have also brought work colleagues and friends as well. We all know the wait is always a thing but typically worth it for their delicious food and attentive service. Today the delicious food was not what we received. We ordered 6 lobster rolls, a few to go, and a few to eat there. We ordered the cold lobster rolls with mayo. Only one actually had mayo which you could see. All the others did not. It was watery, therefore the roll was soggy, and the lobster itself was mushy with a very salty taste like it was previously frozen in salt water. I asked our waitress if there was a mistake and maybe the mayo was overlooked. She responded that this had been happening all day and she could bring me a side of mayo for me to apply to the already made roll. I then asked if maybe she could ask the kitchen to actually take the two rolls back to have then done correctly. She brought them back with a couple minutes saying that mayo was added, but it just absorbs and you can't really see it. Remember, we already had one roll made properly out of the 6 we ordered. I questioned her on this and she said she would have her manager come over. After 15 or so more minutes, the manager came, I politely explained what had happened and even asked if maybe the lobster was previously frozen, or if maybe this was now the new norm? He avoided the question, said he would speak to the kitchen about it, and would "take care" of our bill. He came back with the bill and removed one $10 appetizer which we actually enjoyed. After looking at this with my family, we spoke again to our waitress to try and understand just what he had done as she couldn't explain it either. Let me just note that I had about 5 bites of the 1 pound lobster and just couldn't eat it. She then asked the manager to come back. He was not happy at all when we questioned him. Our waitress had boxed up the lobster which I did not ask for and he commented that if I was taking it home, I should have to pay for it to which I responded that I was actually taking just the mac and cheese I had ordered as a side for my son but really had no interest in the lobster. He snatched the bill back and rudely walked away to remove the $40 dollars for the unsatisfying rolls. When he returned, I explained to him how frustrating this visit was and how disappointing to receive such bad service from him and the kitchen. He had nothing to say acting like I was the problem. Our waitress was very honest and very attentive. She explained that they were getting complaints all day about this. We even overheard another waitress stressing the lack of mayo to her customers prior to their ordering. We felt bad for our waitress as she was doing her best. I can say that I have had many lobster rolls over the years, and this by far was the worst. I will not be back, nor recommend this to anyone, and felt that sharing my experience to make others aware was the right thing to do. I was actually embarrassed in front of my family as I had raved about this place and to see how disappointing it was was terrible. Good customer service goes a long way with me and today that was not what I experienced. I left it all on the table and generously tipped our waitress as she earned it with her honestly and also for trying to make things right. This place is now of my list...they should have...

This place does not rate a perfect 100, but for what I ordered, it's about as close as I've had in a long time.

We ordered the pulled pork poutine as an appetizer, I ordered the Butcher Block it comes with one side, a half order of steak tips, grilled chicken, a half rack of ribs and a cheese biscuit. I chose to get the Mexican street corn as my 1 option and then ordered an additional side. My wife ordered a cheeseburger with a salad because we just ate poutine french fries.

I found myself sitting there comparing the food to some of the best versions of it that I've ever had and thinking... well, this place is maybe a little bit better at this, another restaurant may have a little bit better that. If you're doing that at a restaurant it must say something about the quality of the food. I think one of the reasons that made me start to compare is the fact that they boldly boast on their menu that they have the best steak tips in the world. I wouldn't go that far, but they were quite tasty.

To get specific, the steak tips were really good, tender, juicy, and flavorful with a nice char. They come in 2 flavors, the standard marinade or (House), and a much sweater option called (Fat Boy). I ordered the house, and they came with a side of the alternative FatBoy sause for dipping. I was glad that I ordered the house because the Fatboy was a bit too sweat for me and tasted like jelly. The grilled chicken was marinated in a similar sauce to the tips, they were juicy yet chard with a good flavor from the marinade. The ribs were tender, fall off the bone with a nice dry rub, but they really came to life when you added the barbecue sauce, in my opinion. The mac and cheese was very good,

My wife said it was the best hamburger she's ever eaten at a restaurant, and that's saying something because she's eating hamburgers at thousands of restaurants. The poutine was great the pulled pork on it was a little bit mushy but that's really not something to complain about. The only two lowlights were when you order the Butcher Block you don't get to choose two sides instead they automatically come with some cheddar cheese biscuit thing. While looking at the menu I was thinking about two sides the entire time until I settled on the butcher block. They informed me that you only get one side because of this biscuit. So I ordered an additional side at extra cost. The downside again was that in my opinion the Mexican street corn was not very good I'm accustomed to it served on the cob with Cotija cheese and spices this tasted more like corn in a broth with taco seasoning. The second was the very heavy dense, not flavorful dry biscuit that came with my order. Otherwise, everything we sampled was amazing. The waitress was quite surprised when we didn't really eat the biscuit and I said she could take it away she said to me "You didn't like it? The table next to you just ordered it and loved it. So take my opinion with a grain of salt.

P.S. we just went back and had the braised beef with onions poutine and it was the best thing I've ever eaten in my life. I also o4dered a strip steak that was grilled to perfection. Everything that we had was amazing on our...

A New England Market That Masters the Meal In NH. Tuckaway Tavern is a Valhalla of meat and so much more.

Walking into this market feels like stepping into a well-loved country store—wood beams, rustic charm, and cheerful pig mascots holding signs that guide you through the maze of culinary treasures. But don’t let the playful decor fool you. This place is serious about food. I needed to film everything as my eye couldn't keep up with my gut reflexes.

The steak tips are the star attraction, and rightly so. Available every day the house ones are perfection; they’re cooked with precision and offered in a variety of flavors that elevate the dish from comfort food to craft. Mondays and Tuesdays bring a coastal twist with lobster rolls that rival any seaside shack. These aren’t filler items—they’re part of a rotating showcase of New England’s gastronomic wheel. Yup they have that to spin the wheel get a deal.

Beyond the hot meals, the market unfolds into a series of rooms, each dedicated to a different part of the dining experience. One room is a haven for craft beer lovers, featuring a wide selection from local breweries, including custom brews made just for the market. Another room is stacked with specialty goods: artisan cheeses, boutique wines, olives, honeys, spice blends, dry rubs, handmade pastas, gourmet chocolates, and seasonal dips. It’s a pantry built for world-class barbecue and beyond. I had no problem bellying up to the bar and engaging in wonderful conversation. Blowing some froth of an IPA with a laugh or two.

The deli section is expansive, offering fresh salads, cured meats, and everything you’d need to build a memorable spread. Tables are piled high with specialty goods that feel handpicked, not mass-produced. It’s the kind of place where you can shop for dinner, stock your kitchen, and discover something new—all in one visit.

The staff run the show with energy and precision. The kitchen operates like a symphony, and the host team brings a level of charm and efficiency that rivals any festival crowd. The owner’s vision is clearly alive in every corner, executed with care and consistency. I think the waitresses work out. No way did I see them haul trays of food out single handedly. The gentle behind you coming though was indeed necessary.

If you’re planning a visit, go early. The line forms before opening, and for good reason. Wednesday tends to be quieter, making it ideal for browsing. Any other day, expect a crowd—but one that’s worth joining.

This market isn’t just a place to eat. It’s a destination, a celebration of New England’s culinary spirit wrapped in the warmth of a country store. From steak tips to spice racks, it’s a masterclass in how to do food right. Yeah, I would drive four hours round trip not a thing.... Ski season coming up I know my new spot to stock the kitchen before hitting...
