Want to start off by saying I found this cute café on on Instagram thought it would be such a great place to celebrate us women to have a great lunch and to support a women/ latin owned business. Had a phone conversation with Julian on May 15th spoke about how many people were attending and menu. I contacted them back on May 22 to confirm the 10 people for June 7th. When we arrived, there was no reservation for us!! The café was packed. He took accountability and apologize said that he had changed calendars and never transferred my 1:00pm reservation over. I stated I understood that things happened he reassured me that he was gonna take care of us, then asked asked if we could come back in a bit. I notified him that we drove over an hour and a few of us drove three hours to get there. We had already paid for parking so there was nowhere to go to make up time. We wound up staying outside until 2:40pm they started taking our orders by 2:45 we all knew what we wanted since we had seen the menu prior. To make things easier I told the waitress put my 5 ppl on my check and the other 2 ppl on another. We order our drinks with a charcuterie board and proceeded to wait for our meals. In this time we had people come back to ask us what we had ordered. we repeatedly told them and for some reason they could not get it right I have never been to an establishment that could not get the ordering correct several times (in English & Spanish) a BLT was ordered 3x and she got it at the end to go because they forgot. It was completely disorganized and it became a little frustrating. We never got our charcuterie board before our meals so I had told them if they could cancel it since it never came out. Julian looked at the waitress with confusion didn’t even realize it was ordered then went back to the kitchen to say that it was almost done to which I said OK if it’s almost done We’ll just take it to go. Since we were done and waiting on our checks. I was patient up until this point because instead of splitting it five and two as I stated when we ordered the waitress puts it on one check so I stood there with her as she was highlighting my order. At this time, Julian just said let’s do it like this. Read off your complete order which I did he repeated it back as he was punching it in the system.Didn’t mention that he charged a 20% gratuity already on to my bill which I wound up tipping another 15%. He stated he gave me 10% discount for all the trouble and time that we had to wait never got it Remember he was punching in the order as I was saying it so there was no receipt for me to see that it was on there and that I got charged an extra cranberry chicken croissant . I paid my 155.75 he thanks me I walk outside, only to be called by my cousin that he was charging her 131.00 for two meals. I walk back inside and took my receipt out to show I just paid the big bill. And that they were paying for the remaining two meals. As I’m driving home I noticed a vm from Julian thanking me for coming, but that someone didn’t pay and that if I could swing by one day and correct it. The audacity to blame me for not paying for something is beyond me after all that we went through from beginning to end it was the worst experience I’ve ever had and I have traveled and I’ve been to many places and I really really wanted this to be such a great experience and it was a total disaster. It saddens me to say I would not go back nor would I recommend anyone I know or come across to do so. I really hope they get organized and get a better system...
Read moreAfter the teahouse close to where we moved in Reading closed down (a day before my anniversary I might add - shame), I finally found a place I could take my spouse for High Tea, this time as part of our 22nd Anniversary celebrations.
I haven't yet tried the rest of their menu, however, the High Tea packages are various and fairly priced per person. A reservation will assure you and any guests a nice time with a quality tea menu (couple dozen regular, fruit, and herbal teas- very diverse!), hand sandwiches (think sliders and pinwheels) with delicious fillings touched with a light brushing of garlic butter, and a small assortment of fruit and pastries for the finish. The tea is kept hot in decorative glass teapots with votive candles in a metallic basins. I would have liked to see as diverse a selection of said pastries as the sandwich plate (to hell with my figure!), but what I assume were samples of a little of each made for a delightful finish.
I have plans to return to celebrate my daughter's birthday soon (she loves making us tea at home), and feel this will be perfect for a family celebration. A party of two partaking of the Premium Package will set you back around $75. There are much more lush packages to choose from ($45 PP for the VIP service).
Paying by card, I did not see where I could include gratuities after such lovely service on the slip so I don't know if they were included in the Package. However, parties of 6 or more will be issued a 20% service charge - just FYI.
Parking across the street at the Lincoln Hotel garage is free (at the time of this review) on Saturdays...
Read moreToday, my friends & I went to Ma Patisserie for a Parisian breakfast tea and pastry outing. My friend has an electric scooter, and unfortunately, older buildings lack wheelchair accessibility, so we weren't able to get her inside the building. This did not stop the owners from trying everything to get her in, including trying wooden slats, etc.! To err on the side of safety, we decided to grab some items to-go. When I was paying for my cappuccino, Julian, one of the owners, said, "It's purchased," and proceeded to show me the portable ramp he purchased so that she could come back. Julian and Yohanna, your kindness and effort to make this happen for her goes beyond customer service; it shows a love for community and those with different abilities. Thank you for being so accommodating and for trying everything to get my dear friend inside. With God's blessing, we will come back soon as the ramp is ready! Thank you again, and may you be blessed 10 fold for acting quickly to accommodate my friend. Friends, please show them some love and visit their beautiful cafe. They are serving more than food; they are serving kindness...
