The best authentic Mexican food in Central Oregon! No joke, the menu is 95% in Spanish, with very few pics. All good, I can speak enough Spanish to pass, but no worries, the lady at the counter taking orders speaks good English. It is very small, with 7 booths inside, and 3 fold-up chairs to sit on while people wait for carry-out. I ordered the caldo de res, and it comes with house-made salsas, house-made gordita tortillas, chile's, lime, onions, cilantro, a side of rice and dried oregano. I also got a burrito con pollo, and together I couldn't finish them. Delicious! My wife got the over easy eggs, with beans and rice, and they were served on top of a corn tortilla with both red and green sauce. They also came with torts on the side. There were a few work crews in there having lunch when we went, and they all seemed to be ordering either tacos or a burrito, and most had a bottle of Coca-Cola, so next time I will try the tacos. Atmosphere gets a 3 only because there is not even one picture of anything on the walls, and a single TV up in the corner. Perhaps they dont want you to get too comfy, seeing they have very limited seating. The food though, boy o boy, I have yet to order something from La Frontera that I dont want another order of to take home! Also, they recently took over the building behind the restaurant and made it onto a little grocery store. It used to be a ballerina school. Also, if you haven't tried their bakery just a few blocks down, oh...
Read moreYou can't get Mexican food any tastier, more authentic or better value than the fare at La Frontera. Migrant workers who know their food are literally getting off the bus (the La Frontera) right out front of this friendly little place on Highway 97, but everyone is welcome here where you order and pay at the counter for either dine in or take out.
Terrific pozole is available every day, a definite sign of authenticity, as are the home-made salsas, horchata, lengua (beef tongue), chiva (goat) stew, and many many other items. Excellent enchiladas and tacos with your choice of meats, etc. etc. round out the menu. You really can't go wrong with any of your choices at this place that merits 10 stars on this 1 to 5 star rating system.
And the good news for those who might want a more upscale establishment with table service is that La Frontera has leased the large adjacent building (the former Redmond Dance School) and will be opening a full service restaurant in the not too...
Read moreI love this little place! It's one of those places that it's hard to branch out on the menu because you crave your favorites! I usually get the quesadilla (and before you judge me for how basic white girl that is, order it!!) Sauteed meat and cheese fried to the perfect crisp in a flour shell and topped with beans, cheese, veggies, and sauce. The temperature, the texture, the blend of crispy and creamy...chief's kiss! Wonderful job ladies! Yall are doing the Lord's work! While there's usually someone who speaks english it's helpful to know a little Spanish. It's thee most authentic Mexican food I've found in Central Oregon AND they have a mexican bakery 0.25mi north! We've gotten single servings of Tres leches to take on a summit hike at Smith Rock to celebratory eat...
