Living in Reno, where Korean restaurants are a bit of a rarity, discovering Korean Tofu House was like finding a little piece of home! As a Korean, I’m always searching for that authentic taste, and this place hits the mark. The soft tofu soup (sundubu jjigae) is my absolute favorite—rich, flavorful, and with just the right amount of spice. It’s the kind of dish that warms you up from the inside out. But the hot pot bibimbap is another star on the menu! Served sizzling in a hot stone bowl, the rice gets perfectly crispy at the bottom while the fresh veggies, savory beef, and a fried egg on top create the ultimate mix of flavors. Add a bit of gochujang (Korean chili paste) or miso mayo (non Spicy option), and you’ve got a dish that’s both satisfying and delicious. If you’re in the mood for something with a bit of spice, the jjambbong is a must-try! It’s a spicy seafood noodle soup that’s packed with flavor and just the right amount of heat. And let’s not forget the banchan—the variety of little side dishes that come with your meal. From crunchy kimchi to sweet pickled radishes, these tasty bites add an extra layer of flavor to your dining experience.
The restaurant has a cozy, welcoming atmosphere with traditional Korean decor that makes you feel right at home. The staff are super friendly and make sure you have everything you need. Whether you’re new to Korean food or a seasoned fan, you’ll feel comfortable and well taken care of here. If you’re in Reno and craving authentic Korean flavors, this is the place to be! From the comforting tofu soup to the sizzling hot pot bibimbap, jjambbong, and delicious banchan, you’ll find everything you need for a truly satisfying meal. Highly...
Read moreThis place rocks! Haven't had Tofu Soup since BCD, and this is not just close, but a little better in some ways. The rice isn't stone pot, so it's not the one with crispy bits you can scrape out and soak with the soup. But the Banchan (side dishes) is great, haven't had radish kimchi in ages and it might be the best I've had. Kombu wasn't overly seasoned, a refreshing acidity, but the bean sprouts could use a little sesame oil.
The soups, on the other hand, were perfect. We got them at spice level 0 (no spice) and level 4 (max spicy). The level 0 seafood soup was mild in flavor but wasn't too fishy, and the baby octopus in it was cooked perfectly. We both agreed that it may be better to get at least level 1 spice. It was also nice that the shrimp was already peeled, and there were no clams (less mess with peeling and shells). The level 4 Spam and Kimchi was full of flavor, and despite the heat, was mellow enough to enjoy without discomfort. After two orders of Banchan, we were full.
I've had a lot of tofu soups, and this one hit the spot. Give this place a try, I'm excited to come back and try the Japchae...
Read moreTofu House has quickly become my favorite spot to eat! I've tried about five different entrees now, (and re-ordered my favorites other times) and the consistency and flavors are amazing every single time.
My favorite dish is the hot stone beef bulgogi bibimbap, with the pork soft tofu soup a close second favorite. The kimchi fried rice is also amazing, as is the beef bulgogi and the japchae. So far, we've tried the tteokbokki, the pot stickers, and pajeon appetizers. All are fantastic. The banchan (side dishes) are also a delight, and the kimchi is phenomenal. Order a Korean beer, soju, or the makgeolli to complement your meal, and you wont regret it!
Deciding what to order is honestly always a difficult choice to make because I haven't left disappointed or still hungry once. The staff are amazing. They're attentive, patient, and kind, and have offered suggestions "for next time" on multiple occasions. And I appreciate it so much! Walking in to Tofu House, I always feel like I'm being welcomed into a friend's home and spoiled with delicious food. Pictures are from...
