A local staple for Bostonians, came here to get my lobster roll fix.
I didn't have much expectations other than hoping the flavor of this Northeast favorite was incredible. Came here on an overcast day. You order at the windows and all the seating is outside or under a gazebo-esk place across the street. I ordered the lobster roll ($21 + tax) and cheese fries with bacon bits ($6).
The lobster roll came with a bag of chips an a pickle. I was glad it did because for $21 I then was hoping to get sort of a meal out of it. The lobster roll itself was a piece of grilled bread and lobster put in. The lobster was cold, salty, and wet; which then made the bread soggy. I did like the contrast of the warm bread, when I was able to get a bite of that, and the lobster. The lobster was fresh, I understand the steep price in this crustacean.
The fries was well worth the price. All smothered in cheese and bacon goodness. Overall, the meal balanced out and I checked off eating a lobster roll from the East Coast off my list. Weather does influence in my meal experience, when I was about to chow down on my roll it started to rain a bit. Cold on cold? No thank you, I will definitely be back for the summer to enjoy Kelley's in it's prime. ^_^...
Read moreI want to begin this review by saying that I have been a long time fan. Decades of trips to the beach, in my youth, with my kids, and with numerous out of town friends. So this bad review pains me, personally. Two weeks ago I brought a friend here as a gift for their birthday. They are also a long-time Kelly's customer. My friend is a huge fried clams fan, so I sprang for two Fried clams plates and drinks. It was about $60. The price of two good meals at a decent restaurant. We carried the bag across the street to eat on one of the benches. We had been told ketchup, salt, pepper and napkins were in there. They were not. And neither was the anticipated hot, sweet and plentiful clam goodness. When we opened the plates we found cold, scrawny and lonely , clams?, I guess. Between the two plates we might have had one serving the size of Woodman's or the Clam Box, and none of the quality. I almost went across the street to complain, but my friend and I had traveled an hour and a half, combined, to get there. And it was for his birthday. I was just sad, disappointed and a bit angry. Two weeks has passed, and I am still feeling those emotions. I won't be going back...
Read moreWhat a difference a year makes. I went here in september 2021 and had great stuff. I was in the area this year and made a treck from Providence just to get lunch here. I got a roast beef and a lobster roll. I should have stuck with the fried clams. The roast beef was cut thick and grey. Kind of like what you would pull out of your fridge three days after a rib roast dinner. I must have got the tail end. It had that "leftover" taste. The fat turned a little funky. No pink like some lucky others have enjoyed. The Bun was about 3" tall and was border line stale but the meat was only about 1/2" thick. 3 OZ maybe? I ended up just eating the beef and throwing the bun to the seagulls. They did not complain. The lobster roll was ok. A lot of shreded lobster and some claw meat for looks. Lots of salt. Didn't eat that bun either. I went there at the peak of lunch time and there was only a couple people wating for their orders. That should have tipped me off. I'll cross this joint off my go to...
