First-time visit, this evening. Excellent! I will be back, when visiting Rexburg. Great customer experience, including good quality food, helpful and hard-working staff, and well-placed unobtrusive technology.
It's been about 20 years since I visited a Mongolian BBQ place. So, the man at the counter who took the order patiently and happily helped explain the options and their approach. He was spot on with his explanation and recommendations, and very accommodating of my many questions. There are also a number of helpful signs to provide guidance.
Apparently, he had put my order into their system before I was finished with all of my questions, so that within the five minutes or so of that conversation, my drink order was already at my assigned table, and by the time I finished building my bowl, my appetizer was waiting for me there, too. This is good use of technology.
The ingredient options were abundant and well-stocked. I watched staff members steadily attend to these bins. The food was fresh. The sauces were also came in a good variety, and with the guidance of the first staff member, I built a good combination of sauces to complement the medley of ingredients that I had picked.
The young man who cooked the food on the big, circular griddle [I'm sure that there's a technical term for that apparatus :-) ], happily received my bowl, took my ticket that was produced at the time of ordering, and went to work. It was even more impressive to watch when he would receive group orders, and would simultaneously cook three or four bowls. Even more cool, was to watch him clean off the griddle, which produced a massive cloud of steam.
Presentation was classy and simple. The appetizers and cooked food arrived on nice plates.
My only constructive criticisms. First, they need one more staffer - maybe I hit them on a night when someone didn't show. My table service left me with an empty glass, halfway through my meal. No worries, though. Not a big deal. Second, a suggestion - the quantity of options afford a stunning and somewhat intimidating range of variations, and with a cuisine that isn't commonly known ... at least for me. Perhaps the restaurant could suggest a few different combinations for the 'newby' to become acquainted with good pairings of veggies, proteins, sauces, and noodles. I'm kind of a nerd this way, but, I would've really enjoyed some commentary on why and how those pairings make sense - e.g. rice noodles absorb the curry flavoring sauce in a particularly unique way, and the savoriness of the pork combined with the Chinese main sauce all complement each other for whatever culinary reasons that they do.
Regardless, this was a great experience! And, something I would've expected in a larger, more cosmopolitan community - like Denver, Austin,...

My husband and I were regulars at Dong's Sushi. We were surprised by the merge with Adam's, but we were hoping the sushi wouldn't suffer from if. Unfortunately, our experience tonight proved us wrong. We ordered 5 rolls and a side of gyoza over the phone, and the employee told us it'd be ready in about 20 minutes. I went by a little over 20 minutes later to pick up the sushi, but it still wasn't ready for us. I sat in the restaurant for well over 30 minutes waiting for them to finish the gyoza and one of our rolls. They had one chef working and were extremely busy with customers coming for the Mongolian food. It took awhile for one of the employees to let the chef know I was waiting on our food due to the constant flow of customers coming in, and he had to call in a second chef to help take over the Mongolian food so he could make our last roll. All of the employees were kind and clearly trying their best to handle the busy time, but there were just too many things going on. When I brought the food home, my husband and I were disappointed to find that most of the rolls were falling apart, and the pieces were unevenly cut. All of the rolls were mushy and had an unusually fishy taste (whether from sitting out for an hour or from poor ingredient quality, I can't say). The one deep fried roll we'd ordered had gotten very cold and was even mushier than the others due to the deep frying. It seems that the merge with Adam's Mongolian Grill has left Dong's Sushi as a shell of what it used to be. With the number of customers, the lack of employees simply cannot handle two varieties of food.
If you are going to get the sushi, I do not recommend eating in the restaurant since the whole place smells like Mongolian food (which is great if that's what you're eating, but it doesn't mix so well with sushi). As for my husband and me, we won't be coming back as there are plenty of dedicated sushi bars in Idaho Falls with much higher quality for relatively...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTo me, this place is an utter disappointment. Ive gone several times, and not once have I been remotely pleased. Honestly, it lacks everything I think makes Mongolian barbecue great.
First of all, the interior itself is poorly designed. Only a single queue can form, and consequently ingredients get mixed with each other and the bar itself is very dirty. When employees try to clean or refill bins, they have to disrupt the line.
It's overpriced, charging for one bowl what other similar restaurants charge for a buffet. The ingredients are not chopped evenly, causing some things to be overcooked in some instances and undercooked elsewhere. There's a disappointing lack of choices in regards to sauces and noodles (something I think is essential to Mongolian barbecues. Isn't the fun part trying lots of different things and combinations?) and nothing appeared to be fresh.
If the food were gourmet, or something special, I would understand the price and the one bowl per person philosophy. But the cooks are slow, and the bowl is often cooked poorly, resulting in a mushy mess.
Not only is the food disappointing, but the service is curt and very slow. A short looking line can hide a 30 minute wait time. The ingredients are often low, and in one instance it took 15 minutes for the meat to be restocked after notifying several employees. They also seem incapable of keeping their hours consistently. I have had friends turned away 40 minutes before closing because the "cooks were tired," and they close during a prime eating time for the local students.
All in all, I'm sad to say I can't reccomend nd this place to anyone. The food is low quality and overpriced, and slow to get to the table. Look elsewhere for...
