Trucker's Cafe — Restaurant in Richardson

My husband and I bought a Groupon for this restaurant and didn’t even use it. We arrived at the restaurant on Friday, May 6 around 4pm ish and there were no other persons dining. We didn’t let that stop us. When we walked in, there was no smell of cooking food. Okay. We saw a lunch line style serving counter- one with sides and the other with meats. Also one with deserts- and it wasn’t even lit up to showcase the deserts and the banana pudding looked old. There was no heating lamps to keep the food warm, nor were their any lids. (A lot of places don’t have lids, true, but this is the case usually when business is rapid and they’re selling out of food quickly) but it was a lot of food precooked and just sitting there uncovered. To be very honest, the food did not look appealing at all. I don’t know what time the food had all been cooked but it looked as if it had been sitting there a while. (I wondered if they were going to put it in a microwave after they fixed our plates because like I said, the food looked cold-room temperature at best) The fried chicken looked sad and everyone knows fried chicken is best when it’s freshly fried, and yet it was just sitting there…and the gravy looked congealed. My husband asked the price ranges for the meats and was told it depended on which meat he got. I’m sorry but if I’m paying $17 for some food, I want fresh food not something that’s precooked and been sitting out for a while. I don’t mean no disrespect, I’m just being honest. Why is the food just sitting there? I feel like a good restaurant knows when and how much food needs to be cooked depending on when they’re going to be busy or not. There was no one there, therefore the food could be cook to order. Needless to say we politely said never mind ...

Service was GREAT ! BUT WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. Drove 1 hour for this place. A waste of money . Ordered a catfish dinner w/extra side(cook made it to order but got so busy forgot she was making it. And once she realized it was over cooked and hard) waited almost 30 mins so didn’t even bother to let her know. My whole group had already started eating Without me. Meanwhile I was standing in the order area waiting for my food.

Fruit punch was good.

Banana pudding is more of a cake and not pudding. Not sweet at all. Had a weird taste. As you see in the pictures barely touched it. Worse I ever tried

Corn bread super DRY and burnt not sweet at all.

Greens and yams SMELLED so good I swear it felt like false advertising once I tasted them.

Mac & cheese taste like stouffer‘s (needs salt and pepper) I ate it since I was hungry.

I also included what my friend got (the recipe) her rice was dry so she added chicken juice to it & her chicken didn’t have enough seasoning but she said it was better then everything I had.

Everything in the pictures was left on the table. Including the fish it’s just behind the receipt picture.

My meal was 16.99 (catfish plate) Extra said 4.99 (Mac/ no taste just cheese and pasta) Drink - 3.99 Banana pudding - not sure the price but more than $5

I want to start out by saying I just moved to beautiful city of Plano tx.so tis Easter Sunday I decided to find me a soul restaurants nearby what a miserable mistake that was this dump they call TRUCKER RESTAURANTS. future customers this is a dire warning ⚠️ the food is garbage 🗑 straight out the dumpster trash.ok lady asked what I'm having I say do you have neckbone she politely say yes ok so I say I'm going try smothered porkchops that was the 2nd worst mistake I have made since marriage to my first wife!!!! Ok she asked me what 2 sides I say candy yams mac& cheese. 2 pic corn bread. Great how much 26$ok paid grab a table praying as I'm sitting dwn that this food taste like a 26$ meal .ok try the porkchops first tough then leather cooked frm frozen tough then leather with no taste with a bunch of gravy sad . Now what so called soul food kitchen doesn't know how to cook Mac & cheese. Lord this m.c tasted sour they used old wic cheese just plain trash cheese 🧀awful taste. and the candy yams tasted like they just pour them out of a can just horrible just plain old yam awful yes people these soul food restaurant here around Dallas north and south doesn't have a clue about cooking souls food.the only thing there good for is Preparing low quality food at astronomical prices other words just ripping off the customers.
