Had been hearing amazing things about this spot since it opened and finally stopped by for a quick lunch during work!
Atmosphere is small and intimate. Decor is clean and simple with lots of green throughout, and menu is easy to read while you're in line.
Keep in mind, this is NOT a place to sit down and eat, it is a no frills take out spot, but if you must, there's a communal stand up table. And if you've never been deep in Richmond on Macdonald Ave, just know that it isn't in the safest neighborhood. Street parking can also be tough.
Now the FOOD, what we are ALL here for. So far I have only had the Kalbi (kbbq beef shortribs) sandwich and rice plate. UNBELIEVABLE. The sandwich is on an Acme roll, but what was amazing about it was the apple arugula salad and the creamy (mayo based?) sauce in the sandwich. Usually, Kalbi is pretty heavy, but this was a refreshing twist that was more balanced with each bite.
I must say though, everyone comes here for the Mary's fried chicken, there most popular item. Everyone I know who has had it has raved about it... so if you are lucky enough to make it here during their minimal hours AND it is not sold out, PLEASE go for it.
Anyways, I will definitely be back.
For the fried chicken.
And the scallops.
And back again...
Read moreThe finest take out in the East Bay or anywhere in the Bay Area as far as I'm concerned. The fact that he makes this variety of dishes from this tiny hole-in-the-wall steps away from a hair salon and a bodega makes it all the more impressive. This place belongs in Berkeley's Gourmet Ghetto, but I am thrilled that it's less than 10 minutes from home.
The portions are substantial and the quality is incredible. The flavors are Asian (Korean-influenced) but so reflective of the chefs whose cookbooks adorn the interior. I enjoy picking up my orders, so I can chat a bit with his sweet mother who hands me my bag of goodies with a smile and thanks. She's so grateful that people come to enjoy her son's cooking; it's very endearing.
My mission is to try every item and I'm getting close. My go-to is the Market Salad with harissa grilled chicken. Depending on my mood, I'll either get the fries or the pork dumpling soup as my accompaniment. All of it is good to share or keep for two additional meals.
You can't go wrong with the rice bowls (beef rib or chicken) or the sandwiches.
Tip: order through the square site and pick up if you can to save $$. But if you can't get this any other way, pay for an app delivery....
Read moreWow, I think I just had the best teriyaki chicken I’ve ever had. The quality was superb. Great grill marks, great char, great quality chicken. Perfectly cooked rice. A little chili crisp and garlic chips on side.
The teriyaki sauce was nostalgic and transported me to my childhood, as I had access to amazing teriyaki chicken as a kid.
The family that runs this place is super sweet too. The ambiance inside while you wait for your food is comfortable and clean. Our food was running a little late, but I did not mind at all since I knew the quality would be there. So be patient. If you’re in a rush, then maybe try this place another time.
Not cheap, but for the quality of the food, this is an absolute gem. Truly needed in Richmond California. Wow. Just wow. I’d eat here every...
