Delicious food, friendly service, comfortable atmosphere - now keep reading because you are going to want to know this. Our friends suggested this place for breakfast and it was SO GOOD on Saturday that we went back again after church on Sunday. I don't usually take pictures of my food, sorry, but you have to imagine hot, crispy fried green tomatoes with perfectly poached eggs* and buttery Hollandaise (add a drop of hot sauce it your Bennies will thank you) *poaching eggs is an artform and many restaurants just won't do it, even if you ask nicely and say please. Do you like a Bloody Mary? I do, a lot, and it seems like the world has gone crazy with adding all sorts of stuff and garnishes... Eat 66 keeps it classic (you can add crispy (seriously, it doesn't flop over all fatty and gross) absolutely perfect bacon if you choose - obviously I did) with the horseradish and all the flavors balanced and in tune. I don't know if it was the booze or the food or the friendly smiles, but I felt that place pretty happy (2x) - and weekends are already usually pretty good mood lifters. Everyone I was with, both days, was also psyched about their meals and we agreed that maybe Eat 66 means how many times you need to go in a row?!
EDIT: the GRITS! how did I forget to tell you how perfect the grits were?!? Not gluey, not watery-runny, just awesome (you thought I was going to say perfect again, didn't you?) Okay, go find out for yourself - and you might have to dig around in the butter/creamer/condiment holder thingy to get you some butter but...
Read moreA few weeks ago, I brought my girlfriend to this restaurant for breakfast. The meal was fine, but at the conclusion of our meal I gave a generous tip to the server, the cashier and the gentleman who was helping deliver the meals to the tables. I gave the manager my debit card to pay for my whole meal because I could not see our server. The manager never gave me back my debit card. I immediately realized that I didn’t have my card after leaving the restaurant and went back, but the manager insisted that she had gave me my debit card back even though I knew she Hadn’t, I didn’t want to make a scene , so I left, and called back two days later and sure enough one of the employees said yes sir, your debit card is here. I had already called my bank and reported my debit card as stolen, and it was immediately canceled. The fact that the manager refused to even look for my card was very insulting. Her unprofessionalism caused me lots of grief and anxiety. Because of this, I will never go back to this restaurant again. If she would have taken just one minute, lto look for my card she would’ve found it. I asked for the phone number of the owner and I never received any callback or response from anyone. Nir did I ever receive any apology . That was totally unprofessional and...
Read moreClassic eastern Virginia diner—but made from scratch home cooking your grandmother or even great grandmother made like melt in your mouth chicken & dumplings, fried green tomatoes, or meatloaf served in a variety of ways, oh and FRESH local fish fried up! Driving home the eastern Virginia diner vibe are things on the menu like the salt herring, scrapple, the bologna burger, fried chicken livers, and fat back. The brunch drinks we tried (Bloody Mary $3.75 & Orange Crush $5) were great & we’ve had our share of RVA drinks. I’ve been told to try their famous “Wang Dang Doodle” drink next time.
The owner and staff pride themselves on being a neighborhood family place where "everybody knows your name", they are kid friendly and have high chairs and boosters seats. I was pleasantly surprised about little details you wouldn’t expect like the Orange Crush is fresh, squeezed-to-order oranges, or the chipped corn beef gravy is sliced from a fresh corned beef brisket, or the mashed potatoes are actually potatoes mashed right at Eat 66.
We’ve been every weekend they’ve been open so far and we don’t plan on...
