From the outside this place is very easy to drive past, it looks like an old building in this neighborhood and the signage doesn't jump out at you. Had been told by others that they have the best hamburgers in town so finally had to try it out. We ordered the special of the month which was Black Eyed Beauty Basket. The basket includes homemade Cole slaw with seasoned fries. I don't remember all of the things included on the burger but I remember bacon, onion, pickle, more than one kind of cheese and other toppings. They had the IPA beer that we like on tap. The hamburger baskets were really the best you will find in town. Or at least you won't find anything better. The Southside Bar has been in business since 1858 and the decor, although not from 1858, is that of a cozy neighborhood bar. They have updated the entertainment to include a number of big screen TV's and a modern jukebox type of music. It has a name but I didn't look that hard. As I noted before the food was excellent and as advertised. The Legends part comes from the many photographs and items from "Legends" in sports and entertainment. Some of the legends are local but some are known worldwide. We got there at 3:40 or so on a Saturday, there was no wait. The bar was full and as we sat there other patrons entered from all age groups. There is a second "room" which is only separated by a low wall but it seemed to be where a group could meet for a special occasion. The service was excellent, since there seem to be a lot of regulars and this was our first time you might think that this wouldn't be the case. We were treated like we had been there 100 times. Great place, will be back and recommend that you do too.

I have eaten their food once before as a carry out at work, but this is the first time I ate in there. I ordered a Mega Grilled Cheese Sandwich, Sweet Potato Fries, and Diet Coke. They were delicious. I understand this is a historic bar, and I like the pictures on the wall. UPDATE: January 5, 2023-I went back and tried their The One That Got Away Fish Sandwich, Sweet Potato Fries, and a Diet Coke. The sandwich and fries were delicious. I got more pictures of the photos on the wall. I do think their prices have gone up since the last time I was there.

This place is truly an iconic local bar with a good selection of food and drinks. We had the Smash Burger and the Legends Cheese Burger basket. The fries were good and the coleslaw was way above average. The stamped tin ceiling, great backbar, and old photos give this place that neighborhood bar feeling. The service was a little slow, but understandable due to the fact every seat was taken. We'll be back next time we're in town.

This place has the absolute BEST bar food you can get here in Richmond! I have tried several things on their menu and have absolutely LOVED everything I've tried! Their portions are generous, their sandwiches and salads are huge, and their pizzas are amazing. My favorites are the Big Grill chicken sandwich and the flying Hawaiian pizza. All their appetizers are delicious! They are very reasonable on pricing for the amount and quality you get. It is ALWAYS crowded when I go in, which only indicates that they have great business although I normally only go in to get take out food, I have found this to be a very classy bar the few times I've came in for a drink. Very clean and friendly environment. Also doesn't have that bar smell you'd expect. I highly recommend this place for a nice evening out for great food and drinks or just grabbing dinner for the family to take home. Words cannot describe how great this place is, you just have to go check it out yourself! This is one of my top five places to eat...

Went for dinner, place was packed. Every table full and very few seats at the bar. Sat at the bar with my wife, ordered off the menu. She ordered a chicken sandwich of some sort (which she loved), and I got the chili and a 1/4# angus beef weiner. Best darn chili intown!!! Weiner with cheeses and onion was delicious. So many options to adorn the dog! Multiple tvs on multiple channels. Hard to tell how many actually worked the bar, at least 4 or 5, and all servers scrambling. Excellent, friendly service...very attentive. Mixed drinks were largerer than my wife expected. Food is ALWAYS excellect ( explaining why every table and bar stool filled). Have brought my kids here on several occassions, and come for lunch alone sometimes. Always very happy with the good and service. If you haven't given this place a try, you're missing a true hometown, family owned gold mind. Recommend for a casual, friendly atmosphere...great food, drink, service at a very...
