I was in Richmond with my husband and 4 kids on a field trip. As an avid knitter and with 2 kids that crochet, I saw that there was a fiber store and was excited to check it out.
The woman working there was unwelcoming to my children. They were curious and were touching yarn, just as I was...just as ANYONE who walks into a fiber store does. They were quiet and curteous when she chided them for touching unspun wool (that was just lying out in the middle of everything) and suggested that my middle school and elementary aged children "sit on the rug" while I shopped like toddlers.
