I was recently in Richmond for an event and searched for a place for my wife, daughter and myself, to eat, that wasnât a chain. After reading the reviews and viewing the pictures, I chose Purdyâs. Downtown Richmond is quaint and appealing, as was Purdyâs, both inside and out. Very nice atmosphere, especially and a wet and cloudy day. However, my experience was not as appealing. A couple of things bothered me about my experience; 1. The cafe, although decently sized, is a coffee shop, that attracts those wanting to sip coffee and use their iPads at a leisurely pace. The trouble with this, is, several tables, meant to be occupied by up to four people were tied up by a single person. Depending on the time you choose to go and the number of people in your party, you may not have seating. My family and I ordered sandwiches, which there were plenty of them to choose from. Sandwich prices were $6-$9, which come with chips or potato salad or fruit, your choice. I can say much positive about the sandwiches. For the price, I would have expected a decent portion or at least something other than prepackaged deli meats. I ordered the Purdyâs Club. Honestly, the sandwich had one slice of pressed turkey, one slice of ham, two slices of precooked, prepackaged bacon, a sliver of lettuce and one slice of tomato. That was it! For $8, I was really disappointed. There was nothing fresh about it and the portion was laughable. My daughter received a Pollo Purdyâs sandwich, which was a pulled chicken sandwich with chipotle sauce. Although tasty, the portion was again, laughable. The sandwich had the appearance of a grilled-cheese sandwich, about 1/2â thick. It is very disappointing to spend over $20 and not receive portions to justify $12. Based on this visit, I would not choose Purdyâs during a meal-time or for a place to eat. Iâm sure, as far as a place to have coffee and talk with a friend, it would be a fine choice. Sorry Purdyâs, it just wasnât a...
Read moreI am a Door Dash driver and there was an issue with an order I was fulfilling and the manager did not handle the situation properly. When I arrived for the order the manager refused to take responsibility for their mistake and provide me with the full order the customer placed.
This is what the manager explained. "In order to partner with Door Dash, we would have to get a Samsung tablet but we didn't want to so we went with the second option of having an automated message system call them to place the order after the customer submits it through door dash. When we received the call my employee who answered it did not write down the full order."
Because of this they only had 3/5 items ready that were already paid for by the customer. Even after I showed her everything on the list that the customer ordered she refused to fulfill the rest of the order. I spent 25 minutes of my time talking with the manager and with Door Dash support. There was no way for me or the customer to cancel the order so I was left with no choice but to take the customer half of her order and risk getting a negative rating. This is how I make a living right now and I missed other order opportunities because of her. I am so disappointed in the way this manager handled this situation and for expecting me and the customer to pay for her employee's mistake.
Edit: After some research I found out the manager giving me trouble was the owner. I will not be supporting this...
Read moreA wonderful place to eat, caffeinate and get some work done.
I had to travel to Richmond for a vet appointment so I took my office with me and set up shop at Purdyâs. I got some drip coffee which was the roast of the day and WOW! It was brewed perfectly. Most people who come to coffee shops look for artisan drinks, but itâs great to have a good drip option. I also had breakfast, a snack and lunch this is my thoughts:
For breakfast I had the Farmhouse bagel, it was on a marvelous multi grain bagel with seasoned eggs (nice touch), cheese, bacon & sour cream. It was perfect, only issue was I only had one.
For a snack I had a Blueberry muffin. It was good, not great, but I wouldnât travel here just for a muffin so I wonât hold that against them.
For lunch I had the Smokehouse wrap, and this blew me away. Full of pulled chicken, bbq, slaw (not sure if this is house made or bought, but the slaw was ridiculously good). This wrap honestly blew me away. Would have liked to have it be a little larger but Iâm also I large guy, it would be plenty for the average person
Place is great! Give it a try
Only complaint is the lack of chairs with seat backs. I guess college kids like the modern high tops with the Barstools, but for extended stays I was here for over 4hrs, my back couldnât...
