China King — Restaurant in Richmond

In order to talk about the food and understand it's quality, we must first talk about the smell of the restaurant. I know, I know, some of you nerds out there think that the two separate senses have nothing to do with each other. Wellllllll. It does. The food tastes exactly how the restaurant smells. Literally. The stench of old oil and dirty mop buckets permeates the food and leaves its scent on everything from your egg roll to the takeout bag itself. I've eaten here a handfull of times (using doordash...I think) and could never place the odor till I went in myself to pickup an order. Maybe it's not dirty mop bucket water, maybe it's a sewer line or a backed up drain. You will recognize the smell instantly once you walk into the restaurant. Besides the sanitation issue, which isn't half as bad as I'm making it sound (unless you enter the restaurant) the food is plain. It's amazing how you can cook friend rice with oils, seasoning and chopped onion and it just taste....yellow. Yes I said yellow. As in, yellow doesn't taste like anything cuz....color. the food is bland and flavorless. There was tons of vegetables and onions and interesting looking things in my pork lomein, yet...no flavor. 2 stars cuz I'm addicted to Chinese food and nothing more. Sad that this is Richmonds idea of how Chinese cuisine should taste. If you order from here, please do not pick it up yourself. King of Chinese food in Richmond!

We recently had our first China King experience and it was spectacular! We called in an order and it was ready to pick up 15-20 minutes later. Very friendly service, very easy pick up.

Amazing food! We enjoyed General Tso chicken, super flavorful, great sauce, we may ask for more broccoli next time. We love spicy food, so may ask for extra spice next time. Great flavor. Great sauce. We also enjoyed the most amazing chicken lo mein we've had in a long time. The egg rolls are off the chart! Crispy, fresh, delicious. Potstickers and pork fried rice are good, too.

We may try to dine in eventually, but be aware there is an unpleasant aroma in the restaurant. That's the only negative I would have, if any at all.

Looking for amazing Chinese food at a good price? China King...

Not sure what happened to this place as I used to eat there often and it was some of the best Chinese food around. Six months ago my wife and I ate there and it was bad enough so that we haven't been back until now figuring that maybe they just had a bad day. However, it has only gotten worse. We ordered general tso's chicken which at one time was a favorite for us but never again. Our General TSO's tasted and smelled more FISHY than any fish I've eaten as did the egg rolls and fried rice......so nasty, that neither of us were able to eat more than a taste. Had it not been take out, I would have driven back the 20 miles to get a refund. I won't make the mistake of ever eating there again. I give one star because that's the least I can give. Save you time and money, Chinese in a frozen dinner is superior to...
