Have been to other locations in the past. First time at this one, we were greeted after we pulled into a spot at the outdoor dinner style restaurant. This location does not have the pushbutton order station like others do. Huge outdoor menu boards around the parking spaces, painted signs describing food and drink options really seems reminiscent of days long past. Our server took our order and payment immediately. There was classic rock and roll playing on the outdoor speakers as we waited for our food. There are several picnic tables for sitting outside of your vehicle. Our server brought each meal in separate bags. I remember and was slightly disappointed they weren't delivered in the baskets on a tray they connected to the window. These days, it probably makes sense to have as little overhead as possible, definitely not a deal breaker. The root beer is exactly as I remember it. Delicious. The French fries were hot, crispy, and delicious. Charburgers and Texas Burgers were just a bit shy of what I remember them to be. There was something familiar and something unfamiliar about them. They were very good, cooked to perfection, filled with the fixings, messy, just as I remembered. This is a cool place to get a bite to eat, whether it's signature burgers, a brat, a hot dog, or a root beer float. Hanging outside with friends or family it's a uniquely tasty place to dine. Also, the bathrooms are not accessible and are located around the building. They were exceptionally clean.

This was an absolute joke! Sadly, they don't bring food out on the trays anymore. $28 for a coney dog footlong, Texas burger, 2 orders of onion rings and 2 small sodas. There was NOTHING Texas about my burger. The bun was disintegrating in my hand as I tried to eat the burger. The bun also had a weird consistency. There was also NO Texas sauce on it any "sauce was on the wrapper. As you can see from the picture there was VERY little. I'm almost pretty positive they premake these burgers and microwave them that's why the bun disintegrated. There's NO way my 2 burger patties touched a flat top grill. Our food was out in less than 5 minutes leading me to believe the only thing fresh made was the onion rings. The soda also had a weird taste too. The only thing that was good is the onion rings. My husband said his rings were VERY salty. We had to go home to eat the food (which was not the plan) because my husband's footlong was shoved into a bag with all the toppings(which stuck to the bag making it impossible to eat in a car)instead of some sort of container. VERY VERY DISAPPOINTING all around. We will never go back. There's no nostalgia to be had here. No wonder it's for sale. This place has given up.

Love the vintage feel of this place! We pulled up and were greeted within 60 seconds, ordered a two grilled chicken sandwiches, two mozzarella sticks, one root beer float, and one dog n suds root beer. Everything was great! I’d probably not order the chicken sandwich again, but they have so many options on the menu, there’s plenty more to choose from. My husband was so excited about the root beer float, he’d somehow never had one and he said he wants to come back here every week for the floats lol. Will definitely be back! Update 8/10/23 Been here 3 times already! The chicken wings, mozz sticks, coney dog and pizza burger are our favorite so far. And the root beer is the best we’ve had. We’ve just moved to the area so we’re getting to know places around us and the waitress remembered us when we pulled up today! It sounds silly, but we were so excited she remembered us. We moved from a bigger city so we aren’t used to that kind of hospitality and it just made us feel so welcome. This place rocks.

This small chain at some point will, like the dinosaurs, go extinct.. why ? The lack of ownership pride ! Nostalgic doesn't mean beat up and run down , fix what you've got , give a menu change for the better , allow owners to grow and make those changes with each other to establish a growth pattern for a successful next 50 years -

I.e. layers and layers of chipped and decayed paint over steel tubing , window frames , doors ect can in fact just be replaced then a restaurant is given new life - the killer of the old restaurant is upkeep and keeping your exterior clean and fresh looking because if the outside isn't up to par what would make a person believe the interior would be ?

Update : 08.10.2021

Ownership - it's not that I didn't enjoy myself with my kids - but I see and have read what the chain rules are for dog and suds - and it stinks for the owners , with change comes growth ., Not in size of establishment but in customer base - let them pull in not just because they haven't had a hotdog in months , but because it's the best hotdog around - hard to do when chain rules are specific as to what can and cannot be changed to suit the traffic passing by - chain CEO's have to work with ownership in updating not just what kinds of hotdogs / burgers / fry's / ice cream flavors can be serviced to customers but how they are presented to them - nothing like a person telling an operation how to operate an establishment , unless that person might have a little knowledge of operating one themselves.

Point being , in some cases to certain things change is good and should be made , chain executives should acknowledge / address it , get back to the growth of yesteryear , the chain is still alive and kicking while others have long gone, don't let them turn it into another food chain statistic.

I'm for you , it's still a great concept , was then and is now , but the updates / training / menu development ect. has gotta come before the decline to the edge...

Richmond, IL location is to be avoided at all costs... Management is totally incompetent. They don't ever answer the phone. When you finally meet them (him) face to face he's just an uncaring idiot (not to mention a "pig" in the way he's dressed while working at a restaurant) The server was not at all competent either by getting our order wrong and then trying to charge us even more after the order mix up. We waited about 12 minutes just to get our order in and well over 35 minutes to receive it (wrong). All the while other customers were getting their orders taken before us and already eaten and left before we ever got our meal. Why I left a $4 tip is my mistake to an order that came up to over $28 for two people (nothing fancy). When we came back to speak to the manager (owner?) the next day just before they opened we were applalled at the filth in and around the entrance to the building and all the tables. Simple cleaning is something that this place knows nothing about. The restrooms (not even fit for the 1950's when the building was built) were totally inaccessible for both men and women. The doors came within an inch of the toilet preventing any normal sized person from utilizing the space in a sanitary manner. The light didn't work in the womens restroom. If the customers have such trouble in trying to use the facilities and clean their hands afterwards one can only imagine the employees ever doing a satisfactory job at cleanliness... Overall this place is a dump run by an incompetent idiot. Save your time, money and health and make your way out to the Dog & Suds - Ingleside, Illinois location for clean quality service that you'd expect from a classic drive in. The Richmond, IL location should be condemned by the health department if they were doing their job (?). Thanks for reading my rant. Please take...

Me and my girlfriend went here last night only to sit in our car for at least 15 minutes watching literally every other car get their orders taken before we did, including ones that pulled in after us. The guy that appeared to be handling orders on the side our car was on went up to the people next to us, and when they weren't ready to order he walked back inside to return a few minutes later. In any normal situation you would expect him to help us while waiting for the other people to decide what they wanted. He did this three times and never once even acknowledged our presence literally right next to him. After he finally took their order, he went back inside and never came back out to our car. We decided to wait another 5 minutes, in case he was just scatter brained or made a mistake or something.

But then one of the girls that appeared to be working the other side went to the side we were on to the other cars around us to see if they needed anything, completely walking around and ignoring us. At that point we felt like the employees were intentionally overlooking us. Even the slowest places or ones with terrible customer service will at least acknowledge you are there and waiting.

I have absolutely no idea why we were ignored but after watching even the other employees ignore us too we decided to leave. I shouldn't have to chase your employees down to get service. Other cars that came up 10 minutes after us were immediately approached by waitstaff and had their orders taken, including the cars right around us. I can't tell you why the employees decided we weren't worth their time but I can tell you that we will never come back. I've never felt more embarrassed going out to eat in my...
