This small chain at some point will, like the dinosaurs, go extinct.. why ? The lack of ownership pride ! Nostalgic doesn't mean beat up and run down , fix what you've got , give a menu change for the better , allow owners to grow and make those changes with each other to establish a growth pattern for a successful next 50 years -
I.e. layers and layers of chipped and decayed paint over steel tubing , window frames , doors ect can in fact just be replaced then a restaurant is given new life - the killer of the old restaurant is upkeep and keeping your exterior clean and fresh looking because if the outside isn't up to par what would make a person believe the interior would be ?
Update : 08.10.2021
Ownership - it's not that I didn't enjoy myself with my kids - but I see and have read what the chain rules are for dog and suds - and it stinks for the owners , with change comes growth ., Not in size of establishment but in customer base - let them pull in not just because they haven't had a hotdog in months , but because it's the best hotdog around - hard to do when chain rules are specific as to what can and cannot be changed to suit the traffic passing by - chain CEO's have to work with ownership in updating not just what kinds of hotdogs / burgers / fry's / ice cream flavors can be serviced to customers but how they are presented to them - nothing like a person telling an operation how to operate an establishment , unless that person might have a little knowledge of operating one themselves.
Point being , in some cases to certain things change is good and should be made , chain executives should acknowledge / address it , get back to the growth of yesteryear , the chain is still alive and kicking while others have long gone, don't let them turn it into another food chain statistic.
I'm for you , it's still a great concept , was then and is now , but the updates / training / menu development ect. has gotta come before the decline to the edge...
Read moreRichmond, IL location is to be avoided at all costs... Management is totally incompetent. They don't ever answer the phone. When you finally meet them (him) face to face he's just an uncaring idiot (not to mention a "pig" in the way he's dressed while working at a restaurant) The server was not at all competent either by getting our order wrong and then trying to charge us even more after the order mix up. We waited about 12 minutes just to get our order in and well over 35 minutes to receive it (wrong). All the while other customers were getting their orders taken before us and already eaten and left before we ever got our meal. Why I left a $4 tip is my mistake to an order that came up to over $28 for two people (nothing fancy). When we came back to speak to the manager (owner?) the next day just before they opened we were applalled at the filth in and around the entrance to the building and all the tables. Simple cleaning is something that this place knows nothing about. The restrooms (not even fit for the 1950's when the building was built) were totally inaccessible for both men and women. The doors came within an inch of the toilet preventing any normal sized person from utilizing the space in a sanitary manner. The light didn't work in the womens restroom. If the customers have such trouble in trying to use the facilities and clean their hands afterwards one can only imagine the employees ever doing a satisfactory job at cleanliness... Overall this place is a dump run by an incompetent idiot. Save your time, money and health and make your way out to the Dog & Suds - Ingleside, Illinois location for clean quality service that you'd expect from a classic drive in. The Richmond, IL location should be condemned by the health department if they were doing their job (?). Thanks for reading my rant. Please take...
Read moreMe and my girlfriend went here last night only to sit in our car for at least 15 minutes watching literally every other car get their orders taken before we did, including ones that pulled in after us. The guy that appeared to be handling orders on the side our car was on went up to the people next to us, and when they weren't ready to order he walked back inside to return a few minutes later. In any normal situation you would expect him to help us while waiting for the other people to decide what they wanted. He did this three times and never once even acknowledged our presence literally right next to him. After he finally took their order, he went back inside and never came back out to our car. We decided to wait another 5 minutes, in case he was just scatter brained or made a mistake or something.
But then one of the girls that appeared to be working the other side went to the side we were on to the other cars around us to see if they needed anything, completely walking around and ignoring us. At that point we felt like the employees were intentionally overlooking us. Even the slowest places or ones with terrible customer service will at least acknowledge you are there and waiting.
I have absolutely no idea why we were ignored but after watching even the other employees ignore us too we decided to leave. I shouldn't have to chase your employees down to get service. Other cars that came up 10 minutes after us were immediately approached by waitstaff and had their orders taken, including the cars right around us. I can't tell you why the employees decided we weren't worth their time but I can tell you that we will never come back. I've never felt more embarrassed going out to eat in my...
